If children are involved, bring information regarding childcare and their expenses as well.

What happens if your spouse disappears before being served divorce papers?

It may sound like something that only happens in movies, but it does happen and it can create unique legal challenges.

If your spouse has disappeared and you don't know where they are, you may still be able to move forward with a divorce. Courts typically have procedures for situations where a spouse cannot be located, but you'll usually need to show that you've made a good-faith effort to find them before alternative methods of legal notice are allowed.

If your spouse has disappeared or you can't locate them, contact our office to discuss your options.

📚 Back-to-School Reminder for Co-Parents 🍎

As a new school year begins, many parents are making important decisions about their child's education. But can one parent change a child's school without the other parent's permission?

If both parents share legal custody, major decisions like changing schools often require agreement from both parents. Making that decision alone could violate a custody order and create legal issues.

If you and your co-parent can't agree, the court may need to determine what's in the child's best interests. If you have questions about your custody rights, our office is here to help.

As the new school year approaches, it's a great time for co-parents to review their parenting plan and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Here are a few things to discuss before the first day of school:
✔️ Who is responsible for school drop-offs and pick-ups?
✔️ How will school supplies, fees, and extracurricular expenses be handled?
✔️ Who will attend parent-teacher conferences and school events?
✔️ Are emergency contacts and medical information up to date?
✔️ How will homework and communication between households be managed?

If you're experiencing ongoing disagreements about school decisions or your current parenting plan no longer works, it may be time to speak with a family law attorney about your options.

Many people stay in an unhealthy or high-conflict living situation because they're afraid that moving out means giving up their rights to the home or their children.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡: Moving out of the marital home does 𝐧𝐨𝐭 automatically mean you lose your ownership interest or parental rights. However, the timing and circumstances of leaving can affect issues like temporary custody arrangements, possession of the home, or other aspects of your divorce.

Before making a major decision, it's a good idea to speak with an experienced family law attorney. Understanding your options beforehand can help protect your interests and prevent unintended consequences. We can help!
