What happens when the technology designed to make life easier becomes a way to track, monitor, or control someone?

AirTags hidden in belongings. Location sharing that was never turned off. Access to smart locks or security cameras after a separation. Co-parenting app messages. Texts, social media posts, and other digital records.

Technology is increasingly becoming part of divorce, child custody, and DCS cases in Tennessee, both as a potential tool for abuse and as evidence.

In our latest blog, we explain what Knoxville-area families should know about technology-facilitated abuse, how digital evidence can affect a family law case, and why preserving that evidence correctly matters.

If you suspect an ex or spouse is tracking or monitoring you, making immediate changes to devices or accounts isn't always the best first step. Understanding what you're dealing with, and how to document it, can be important.

Today, members of the Farragut High School NJROTC took part in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Covenant Health Park, honoring the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Participants climbed the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center Towers, in remembrance of the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and 8 paramedics who lost their lives that day.

We are especially proud of Tanner Oldfield, son of our CEO and Managing Partner, Rochelle A. Oldfield, and a member of the Farragut High School NJROTC, who completed today’s climb alongside his fellow cadets.

To Tanner, the Farragut NJROTC, and everyone who climbed today: thank you for carrying their memory forward.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate Jason Beddingfield’s one-year anniversary with Oldfield Law Tennessee.

Over the past year, Jason has brought a wealth of family law experience, thoughtful leadership, and a steady commitment to the families we serve. His perspective, professionalism, and willingness to step in wherever he’s needed have made him an invaluable part of our team.

Jason’s experience in the courtroom and as a former Blount County Juvenile Magistrate gives him a unique understanding of the difficult, deeply personal issues our clients face, and we’re grateful to have that experience as he works on their behalf every day.

Today, Tennessee and the world lost someone truly special.

Dolly Parton was more than an icon. She was a storyteller, a philanthropist, a champion for children and families, and a source of pride for generations of Tennesseans.

From the mountains of East Tennessee to stages around the world, Dolly never forgot where she came from. Through her music, her generosity, and programs like the Imagination Library, she leaves behind a legacy that will continue touching lives for generations.

For those of us who call East Tennessee home, this loss feels especially close. Dolly represented so much of what makes our part of the world special: kindness, resilience, humor, generosity, and an unwavering love for home.

Our hearts are with Dolly’s family, friends, loved ones, and the countless people whose lives she touched.

Thank you, Dolly, for making Tennessee proud. Your light will be deeply missed, but the good you put into this world will live on.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Second Saturday Divorce Workshop.

This past Saturday, Oldfield Law Tennessee had the privilege of hosting the Second Saturday Divorce Workshop here in Knoxville.

We’re especially grateful to Joni Scates Beachly, CDFA® with Principal and Mac McEntee with Healing Hearts for joining our own Attorney Jason Beddingfield to provide attendees with legal, financial, and emotional perspectives on divorce.

One of the things we value most about events like this is the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals in our community.

Divorce affects far more than someone's legal status. It can impact finances, children, relationships, emotional well-being, and plans for the future. Bringing professionals from different fields together allows us to provide people with a broader understanding of the resources and support available to them.

And that is exactly what this workshop is about: education, resources, and helping people make informed decisions about what comes next.

To everyone who attended, asked questions, shared their experiences, and trusted us with a few hours of their Saturday, thank you.

And to Joni and Mac, thank you for sharing your knowledge and for partnering with us to serve our East Tennessee community.
