Why officers ask to see phones: If you tell the officer that your primary communication with your spouse is via text message or that your joint bank account or photos are on your device, the officer may ask to look at them.

Checking for “good-faith” marriage: Checking call logs, messages, photo galleries (inc. deleted folders), and social media apps.

What happens if you refuse: No, you don’t have to hand over your phone. It’s an administrative not criminal search (needing a warrant). However, officer may think you failed to meet your burden of proof to show a valid marriage—-may lead to denial.

What happens when you hand over your phone: Unrestricted scrolling! May find inconsistencies and suspicious messages and photos.

What to do: Have physical copies of EVERYTHING! Eliminate the need for the officer to ask for your phone!

In a 6-3 decision, SCOTUS temporarily cleared third-country deportations—-nations where individuals have no family or personal ties—-lifting a lower court stay pending December arguments.

Under a series of often-secret agreements, the government has deported some 25,000 people to more than 2 dozen countries, from Liberia to Guyana . The vast majority have been sent to Mexico.

The government has said that it sends people with final deportation orders to 3rd countries when they can’t be returned to their homelands or their home country will not accept them.

Some have found themselves imprisoned in countries they’d never heard of before their arrivals.

⚖️PSA: NOW is NOT the time to ignore this law!

If you are not comfortable carrying your actual card, carry a good, color copy (front and back) of your card and keep a copy in your wallet, in your car and even at your office/locker at work, etc.

Avoid unnecessary, expensive (missing work, hiring an immigration attorney/civil rights attorney) outcomes——-avoid possible physical pain or mental anguish (interaction with government immigration officers) if you are made to “state or confirm” your lawful status—-having proof of your status can shorten the interaction with government official——AND, it’s the law📌

📌The Public Charge Rule is being challenged, but it’s not on pause.

📌USCIS is still using the rule when adjudicating covered adjustment of status cases.

📌If you have a pending I-485 or are preparing to file, make sure of two things:
1️⃣You have the updated I-485 form;
2️⃣You understand how the PCR may affect YOUR case

General information. Not legal advice.

NO, generally speaking, if your N-400 is denied, you will remain a green card holder.

Once you clear the issue (pay back taxes, have met physical presence rule, meet Good Moral Character requirement, etc.), you may reapply for citizenship.

However, if you received your green card through fraud or misrepresentation, you run the risk of not only a denial of your N-400, you risk the cancellation of your green card——without lawful status, you may find yourself staring down a Notice to Appear (the start of deportation proceedings against you).

Before filing your N-400; you have questions/concerns about how you have obtained your green card, let’s do a forensic investigation of your immigration history——-click the link in my bio and let’s chat✅.

DHS rule ending Duration of Status for F, J and I visa holders is currently blocked by a fed court injunction and did not take effect on September 15, 2026.

Visa holders can continue to stay in U.S. to complete program as long as status is maintained.

No action is required—-no need to file an extension or change education program.

Fed appeals court blocked by the Trump admin 3rd-party country deportation policy ruling that the govt cannot swiftly remove people to unfamiliar nations without prior notice and a chance to challenge the destination.

The admin has 90 days to appeal the blockage of 3rd-party country deportations.
