Today I complete delivery of the 50th military service mask to the Kent Count Veterans Treatment Court. Thanks to a special lady in Baton Rouge (wife of retired Army Intel Officer) who hand-cut and sewed most of those masks. I've attached a picture of a mask from the last batch, Marine version.

Happy Loving day!

June 12 is Loving Day, a celebration marking the day in 1967 the Supreme Court struck down state bans against in*******al marriage. The day is named for the monumental case, Loving v. Virginia and the in*******al couple at its center, Richard and Mildred Loving.

I have been asked to be a Q&A panel member after the keynote speech at a Medical Conference in Daytona Beach at the end of February. The conference will focus on "Healing our Healers" and will address the epidemic of depression and su***de in the medical community. It will be host to 300 medical students and physicians. I am honored and humbled to be in attendance and the only non-medical professional on the panel.

In my continuing series, You and the LAW, I offer the following for the new year.

Right now anyone with a Yellow sticker on their MI POV license plate is outdated/expired. For 2019 expirations, the color is Orange. Note that if you had a Dec 2018 expiration and you did purchase the new sticker, you have 30 days to install that sticker on your license plate.

However, why go through the hassle of a traffic stop because you were still displaying an expired Yellow sticker?

In my long overdue "you and the law" series I offer good news for us citizens. Under prior case law decisions, having a simple trailer hitch ball on your car or truck could be a reason for the police to pull you over. It was always a sore point with my fellow criminal defense attorneys. Not anymore.

House Bill 5100, sponsored by state Rep. Holly Hughes, amends the Michigan Vehicle Code to establish that removable bicycle racks, trailer hitches, tow balls or similar devices used to carry objects on the back of a vehicle are not included in the code’s definition of “foreign materials that obscure or partially obscure” vehicle license plates, which is a civil offense. This bill is now Public Act 147 of 2018.

ANOTHER success story. Another criminal case dismissed on the eve of the Jury Trial for my client. Two weeks ago, I successfully got one of the two charges dismissed by the Judge. Now, without that underlying charge, the prosecutor just decided to dismiss the entire case. Perserverance, Persistance, and Due Diligence pays off!

Today I filed a civil litigation case in Federal Court. I am seeking justice for an active-duty member of our Armed Forces who is currently deployed to Southwest Asia. Proud to still be able to serve!

Today, Jan 12, 2018, the Senate of the State of Maryland overturned the veto of the Governor in making Maryland only the 2nd state to prohibit Colleges and Universities from asking an applicant about any criminal history.

Obviously, this law balances the potential safety concerns of the institutions vs. the rights of the applicant.

What do you think about such a law?
