I came across this article and thought it relevant to share - this is what we do. For those 18 and older, when parents no longer have the legal authority to help and assist in the event of the worst possible scenarios, it's important to designate those loved ones who will make the best choices for you in health and financial matters.
- At a minimum, three documents are recommended.
Advanced Healthcare Directive is a legal document that only goes into effect if one is unable to communicate their wishes due to a life-changing illness or injury.
Power of Attorney allows others to access financial accounts should one become incapacitated.
Simple Will clarifies how you would like your assets to be distributed after death.
