At the Kansas Department of Children and Families for a wide-ranging training on how to best serve the children of Wyandotte County. Many thanks to our child welfare partners who were in the room, DCF, Cornerstones of Care, and our office’s Child in Need of Care Attorneys.

District Attorney Dupree and Deputy District Attorney Garrett Relph presented to the group about how our office carefully fits into the system, working to protect children in what can be a daunting process to a hopefully happy ending with reunited families, when possible.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we recognize the importance of prioritizing mental health across the prosecution profession.

Prosecutors carry significant responsibilities on behalf of their communities while routinely facing high workloads, difficult decisions, and exposure to trauma. Taking care of our mental wellbeing is not a luxury. It is essential to sustaining a healthy career, supporting our colleagues, and continuing to serve the public effectively.

Through the work of our Wellbeing Committee, we are committed to promoting resilience, addressing burnout and secondary trauma, and providing practical resources that support prosecutors and prosecution professionals nationwide. The committee's work includes educational programs, wellbeing resources, a dedicated wellbeing app, and guidance designed to help foster healthier and more resilient offices.

On World Mental Health Day, we encourage prosecutors to invest in their wellbeing and to support a culture where seeking help, building resilience, and caring for ourselves and one another are recognized as strengths.
