💙 When does helping an aging parent become caregiving?

It often happens so gradually you don't notice.

First, it's a ride to the doctor or help with a bill. Then you're managing appointments, picking up prescriptions, researching care options, handling emergencies and rearranging your own schedule around your parent's needs. 📅🚗

Before long, helping Mom or Dad can start to feel like a second job.

Recognizing that shift is important. It may be a sign that it's time to stop responding to one problem at a time and start creating a plan for what comes next.

🏡 When you visit your parents, do you ever really look at their home?

Not as the place you’ve known for years—but through the eyes of someone whose balance, vision, strength, or mobility may be changing.

During Falls Prevention Awareness Week, September 21–25, take a few minutes to look for small things that could make a big difference.

💡 Is there enough light in hallways and on stairs?
🏠 Are there loose rugs or other tripping hazards?
🚿 Are bathroom grab bars secure—or are they needed?
🪜 Are stairs clear and railings sturdy?
🙌 Can frequently used items be reached without climbing or stretching?

And don’t just look—ask.

“Is there anything around the house that’s getting harder for you to do?”

That simple question can start an important conversation about what your parent needs to remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home.

Falls are not an inevitable part of aging. A few small changes today may help prevent a much bigger change tomorrow. 💚

🍂 A new season is a good reminder that life changes—and sometimes our plans need to change with it.

Maybe you’ve welcomed a new grandchild. Someone in the family has gotten married or divorced. Your finances have changed. You’ve moved. Your health or the health of someone you love looks different than it did a few years ago.
