June is Cataract Awareness Month

Cataract is one of the leading causes of
blindness in the United States. If not treated,
cataracts can lead to blindness. In addition, the
longer cataracts are left untreated, the more
difficult it can be to successfully remove the
cataract and restore vision. During Cataract
Awareness Month in June, the American
Academy of Ophthalmology reminds the
public that early detection and treatment of
cataracts is critical to preserving sight.

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness
Month, an opportunity to join the global
conversation about the brain, Alzheimer’s
disease and other dementias. Everyone is at
risk to develop Alzheimer’s, a fatal disease that
cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.
During the month of June, the Alzheimer’s
Association asks people around the world to
“go purple” and fight Alzheimer’s disease

Introducing Lifescape's New Client Relations Manager & Triage Specialist.

Tonia Cantrell serves as the Client Relations Manager & Triage Specialist at Lifescape Elder Care Law & Estate Planning, where she helps guide families through some of the most emotional and complex transitions associated with aging, long-term care, and estate planning.

Tonia is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare operations, senior living, compliance, and client advocacy. She brings a unique combination of clinical understanding, industry knowledge, and compassionate problem solving to the Lifescape team. Prior to joining Lifescape, she worked extensively in senior placement and care coordination throughout the Kansas City metro, helping families navigate independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, Medicaid planning considerations, and long-term care transitions.

As the first point of contact for many families, Tonia works closely with clients to understand their concerns, gather essential information, coordinate consultations, and help ensure families feel supported and informed throughout the planning process. Her background in long-term care and senior services allows her to recognize not only the legal needs families face, but also the emotional, medical, and practical challenges that often accompany them.

What’s the biggest mistake families make when it comes to healthcare decisions?

Waiting too long.

Medical crises rarely come with warning, and when they happen, families are often left trying to make urgent decisions without clear guidance. Advance care planning helps ensure your wishes are known and that the right people have the legal authority to act on your behalf.

Planning ahead can spare your loved ones confusion, delays, and difficult choices during an already stressful time.

This guide explains what Kansas City families need to know: https://lifescapelaw.com/advance-care-planning/advance-care-planning-kansas-city/

Many families assume that if something happens, a spouse can automatically make medical decisions. But the reality is more complicated.

Without the right legal documents in place, even a husband or wife may not have the authority to speak with doctors, access medical information, or make critical healthcare decisions. In some situations, families can face delays, confusion, or even court involvement during an already stressful time.

Advance care planning helps prevent these problems by clearly documenting your wishes and giving trusted people the legal authority to act when needed.

This article explains why advance care planning matters so much and what Kansas City families should understand.
