Donald Trump’s election – following his embrace of white supremacy during the campaign – brings us to one of the most dangerous moments in our country’s history. We knew Trump could win and that is why we helped lead a movement wide effort to plan for this moment.

Trump and his allies told us what he plans to do: mass deportations, ending birthright citizenship, ending the right to public education for immigrant children, internment camps, and using the military to hunt down immigrants. We should take him at his word.

One thing is certain: we cannot and will not retreat. For more than 40 years, NILC has been steadfast in our fight to defend the rights of low-income immigrants and their loved ones. We successfully fought Donald Trump before, and we will do it again.

There is too much at stake in the months ahead to succumb to despair. Instead, we will come together, lift up the courage and resilience of immigrant communities, and fight back with everything we have.

NEW GUIDANCE - Spouses of US Citizens may be eligible for parole in place if they meet the following three requirements:

1. Be present in the United States without admission or parole;

2. Have been continuously present in the United States for at least 10 years as of June 17, 2024; and

3. Have a legally valid marriage to a U.S. citizen as of June 17, 2024.

If you have prior deportations, criminal history, or past fraud, you might be ineligible.

USCIS will publish the instructions and forms in the future! You cannot apply now.

President Biden just eliminated the new 2020 version of the US citizenship test. The new version made applicants answer 12 out of 20 questions correctly as a way to have less immigrants being eligible naturalize (and vote). Currently the 2008 version requires the applicant to answer correctly 6 out of 10 questions. Most Americans cannot pass the test. Voting matters.
