Moments like this are the whole reason I started Zentz Law.

This wonderful family came to me to get their affairs in place. And honestly, the best part of this work is getting to sit down with people in their own homes, hear about their lives firsthand, and build a plan that actually fits them. You can't do that from behind a big firm's desk.

In their words: "Tyler explained the how's and whys in a way we could understand, and communicated with clarity and kindness."

Grateful doesn't quite cover it. Thank you for welcoming me in and trusting me with something this important. (Shared with their kind permission.)

"Avoid probate" is advice everyone gives and nobody explains.

So here's the plain version: probate is the slow, public, expensive court process your family goes through to settle your estate after you're gone. Avoiding it just means making sure your home and your accounts already have a clear path to the people you love, no court required.

There are a few simple tools that do it, and one popular "shortcut", adding your kid to the deed, that usually backfires.

Probate is slow, public, and costly. Here is how Kansas City families keep their home and accounts out of probate court in Missouri, in plain language.

The biggest myth in my job: “I’m not rich, so I don’t need a plan.” Not true. It’s not about how much you have, it’s about who raises your kids, who makes decisions if you can’t, and keeping your family out of court. First call is free.

A little over a month into this journey, and we just wrapped up the full process with a client, start to finish, signed and done. Then they left this.

I started Zentz Law to make estate planning simple, affordable, and genuinely reassuring for families, so reading this meant more than I can say. Grateful, and just getting started.

Big news from Zentz Law!

Just one month after opening our doors, we’re excited to announce our first official hire…

Meet Huron, our Chief Morale Officer.

While he won’t be drafting estate plans or appearing in probate court anytime soon, he has already proven himself invaluable by:

🎾 Reminding us to take breaks
😊 Boosting office morale
❤️ Making stressful days a little brighter

Building an estate planning practice is about more than documents—it’s about creating a welcoming place where clients feel comfortable planning for the future.

We’re excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to continue growing.

Welcome to the team, Huron! 🐾

You have a will. Good, you’re ahead of most people. But a will only works once you’re dead, and it still goes through probate. It does nothing if you’re alive but unable to make decisions. That is what the rest of a plan is for. First call is free.

We plan for our kids, our house, our savings, and then completely forget the one who greets us at the door every single day.

If something happened to you tomorrow, who takes your pet, and how do they pay for their care? Most people have never thought about it. And here's the part that surprises folks: legally, your pet is treated like property, so without a plan, their fate comes down to who happens to step up.

The good news is it's an easy fix, from naming a caretaker to setting up an actual pet trust. Wrote the whole thing up, because your pet is family too.

What Happens to Your Pet If Something Happens to You? We plan for our kids, our home, and our savings. But for a lot of families, one member of the household gets left out of the plan entirely, and it is the one who greets you at the door every day. If something happened to you tomorrow, who would

"Do I need a will or a trust?" is the question I get most, and my answer is the most lawyer thing imaginable: it depends.

But stick with me, it's actually simple. A will says who gets your stuff, then sends your family to probate court to sort it out. A trust skips the court part entirely. One is the instruction manual for a process nobody enjoys. The other avoids the process.

Which you need comes down to a few things, and no, you don't have to be rich to want either. I wrote the whole plain-language breakdown so you don't have to Google it at midnight.

Do you need a will or a trust? A plain-language guide for Kansas City families on the real difference, probate, cost, and how to decide. From Zentz Law LLC.
