Leaving an Inheritance Is One Thing. Protecting It Is Another.

When you leave assets to the people you love, you probably want those assets to benefit them—not create new problems.

An outright inheritance may become vulnerable to circumstances you never intended, such as:

💔 Divorce
💳 Poor financial decisions
⚖️ Creditor issues
♿ A beneficiary with special needs
👶 A beneficiary who is too young or not yet ready to manage an inheritance

With thoughtful trust and estate planning, you may be able to create safeguards around an inheritance and determine how and when assets are distributed.

Asset protection isn’t only about protecting what you own today.
It can also protect what you leave behind tomorrow. 🛡️

📄 When Did You Last Update Your Estate Plan?

Creating a Will or Trust isn’t necessarily a “one-and-done” task.

Life changes—and your estate plan may need to change with it.
💍 Got married or divorced?
👶 Welcomed a child or grandchild?
🏡 Bought or sold significant property?
💰 Had a major change in your finances?
👥 Need to change a beneficiary, trustee, or decision-maker?

These are all good reasons to pull out your estate planning documents and make sure they still reflect your life today—not the life you had when you originally signed them.

And yes, you can update Wills and Trusts. The important part is making sure changes are handled properly so your wishes remain clear and legally effective.

Not sure if yours needs a refresh? We can help you review what you have and determine whether updates make sense.

💰 Could Long-Term Care Put Your Savings at Risk?

Many families spend decades building savings, paying off a home, and preparing for retirement—without realizing how significantly long-term care costs could affect those assets.

That’s where proactive planning matters.

Depending on your circumstances, estate and elder law planning may help you prepare for future care needs while preserving certain assets and positioning yourself for available benefits, including Medicaid when appropriate.

But timing matters.

Waiting until a health crisis occurs can significantly limit the planning options available to you.

You don’t have to predict the future. You can simply be better prepared for it.

If protecting your savings, property, and legacy is important to you, now is the time to understand your options.

What will your family inherit that isn’t listed in your estate plan? ❤️

A Will or Trust can help determine who receives your property—but it can’t tell the story behind Grandpa’s favorite chair, identify the faces in an old photograph, or explain why a simple family keepsake means so much.

In our September InComplete Newsletter, Andrea shares an important reminder: your legacy is about more than the possessions you leave behind. Sometimes, it’s the stories behind them that matter most.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the heroes who responded with extraordinary courage.

May we never forget the bravery, compassion, unity, and resilience that brought our nation together in the days that followed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
