Can severe childhood trauma affect your DNA? Yes.

Did you know that we have a great local resource, funded by charity and fueled by amazing volunteers, to help children affected by trauma? Check out CASA of Flathead County here: http://flatheadcasa.org/. Next time you see a CASA volunteer, please thank them. They are literally saving children's lives. Take a listen to Dr. Nadine Burke Harris below.

Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris found an unsettling trend when examining patients at her clinic: trauma. She found that adversity can change a child's biology and result in severe health outcomes.

Parents, especially moms: If you are feeling depressed, you are not alone. For your children's sake, it is important to address depression head-on. Certainly not the easiest thing to do, but critical to your child's well-being. The stigma surrounding post-partum and other forms of parental depression is much reduced from just a decade ago. It is ok to admit you have a problem and to reach out for help. People understand. Attorneys understand. Judges understand. The key is to address the issue with a qualified professional. Start with your physician who can refer you for mental health treatment if warranted. Take good care of yourself so you can take good care of your family. And remember, you are not alone.

Moms who are depressed often suffer in silence -- but this common illness can also take a heavy toll on their children.

The "seven-year itch" is real. Are you giving your marriage enough attention?

I was recently thinking about reasons why people get divorced and recalled the term "seven-year itch." Sure, the honeymoon phase wears off for most couples after a few years, but is it normal to have a marked decline in the relationship after seven years?

I was surprised to find an article on WebMD about the "seven-year itch" and how it's a real phenomenon. See link below. The best part of the article are the comments by Lonnie Barbach, Ph.D., a couples' therapist. Dr. Barbach suggests that instead of thinking about "working on" your marriage, couples should be cognizant about giving their marriage enough attention. The article is short and worth a quick read. Enjoy!

Is the "seven-year" itch just an excuse for infidelity? Maybe not. Recent research suggests there is reason for the straying heart.

This post is to be taken with a grain of salt, but it is apparently based on real life. No matter what your reason, if you find yourself in a situation where the "D" word is being used, you should consult with a family law attorney as soon as possible. Knowing your rights and what to expect will help you not to feel totally overwhelmed. I offer a reduced-fee initial consultation to help individuals about to go through or going through the process.

According to experts, there are many behaviors that can predict divorce. Some are completely obvious, like when the person you married slept with all your friends then ran off with your sister. Then there are other things, like finances— which is sta
