Huge shout out to Oshtemo Family Dentistry for doing this amazing event. Help spread the word and volunteer if you can!

HEY KALAMAZOO πŸ‘‹ PLEASE SHARE!

Dr. Nelson is working hard to bring the 2026 Michigan Mission of Mercy to Kalamazoo at Wings Event Center on June 11–14, 2026.

Mission of Mercy is a FREE large-scale dental clinic that provides care to individuals of all ages in our community who face barriers to accessing dental treatment.

In 2024, more than 650 patients received over $1.1 million in donated dental care in just 2 days thanks to more than 1,000 volunteers from across Michigan. We’re hoping to make an even bigger impact here in Kalamazoo!

🦷 We need volunteers ages 18+. Many volunteer roles do NOT require dental experience - there are opportunities for everyone to get involved and make a difference. We have a variety of shifts each day to make it easy to find something that fits your schedule!

🦷 We also want to help spread the word to individuals and families who may benefit from free dental care. If you work with schools, churches, nonprofits, shelters, outreach programs, or community organizations serving people with barriers to care, please help us share this information.

We would love to see Kalamazoo show up in a big way. OFD will be there - come hang with us!

The NWS predicts that Kalamazoo will see more frigid temperatures in the coming days. Windchills of -15 degrees are predicted on Friday and -10 degrees on Saturday.

There are several warming shelters and centers available for those in need. Shelters accommodate overnight stays and centers accommodate daytime use. Residents are encouraged to take refuge indoors during periods of extreme cold, snow, or freezing rain. Prolonged exposure to cold weather can quickly lead to hypothermia, frostbite, and other dangerous cold-related medical conditions. According to the National Weather Service, exposed skin can develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes with -18 degree windchills. The City of Kalamazoo wants to prevent anyone from experiencing cold related injuries or death. The following list includes details on options for warming shelters and centers in the Kalamazoo area.

Metro Connect will provide free transportation to riders outside of the Metro Bus service area or with mobility needs who are specifically requesting transportation to a warming shelter or center. Please call Metro Connect Dispatch for ride requests at (269)350-2970.

In addition to warming shelters and centers, there are additional mobile resources available for those in the unhoused community experiencing cold-related challenges. The City of Kalamazoo Public Safety Community Service Team (CST) will respond to the individual to discuss different assistance options available. CST can be reached by calling Kalamazoo Consolidated Dispatch at (269) 488-8911 or by email at: [email protected]. If an unhoused individual believes they are experiencing a cold related medical issue which is not an emergency, Street Medicine Kalamazoo (SMKzoo) is also available to help. SMKzoo offers doctor provided healthcare services to the unhoused community and will meet them wherever they are. They can be reached by calling or texting (269) 220-0372. As always, if anyone is experiencing any sort of cold or health emergency, please call 911.
