👉 “I’ve cut off my parents because they’re toxic or abusive — but my ex still lets them see our kids during their parenting time. What can I do?”

These cases are extremely fact-specific and emotionally heavy — you don’t have to navigate them alone. 💙

Our Owner and Managing Attorney, Rachel Kelley, explains a common concern we hear all the time:
👉 Does my ex’s new spouse’s income affect child support or spousal support?

Because alimony cases can get legally complex — especially when orders are modifiable only under certain conditions — it’s crucial to talk to an attorney before filing anything.

Our Owner and Managing Attorney, Rachel Kelley, shares what you should do if your ex has stopped paying court-ordered child support.

No matter what county you’re in, the most important thing you can do is advocate for yourself:
✔️ Stay in communication with your caseworker
✔️ Follow up regularly
✔️ Keep a record of missed payments

If your ex hasn’t paid at all, make sure you’re on a consistent schedule of contacting your caseworker until enforcement begins. You deserve support that’s timely and enforced. 💙

🎄 Holiday Parenting Time Reminder

Christmas Eve is one month away — do you know who has parenting time this year? Now is the perfect moment to double-check your order and avoid last-minute stress.

✨ Here’s what to review:
1️⃣ Check your court order.
Does it give you a specific date and time for Christmas parenting time? If not, does it reference your local Friend of the Court policy? If yes — go to step 2.

2️⃣ Review your local Friend of the Court policy.
It often lays out the exact schedule when your judgment doesn't.

3️⃣ If your judgment is silent:
Start communicating with your co-parent now to reach an agreement for the holiday.
If you're struggling to agree, this is a good moment to talk to your attorney about getting a more detailed parenting time order.

💛 Planning ahead helps ensure a smoother holiday for everyone — especially your children.

1️⃣ What’s best for my child’s daily routine?
2️⃣ How will I stay involved in their education?
3️⃣ Are their emotional needs considered?
4️⃣ What about stability and consistency?
5️⃣ How will decisions about healthcare be made?

Parental rights aren't just legal terms - they're the foundation of your relationship with your children.

Many parents don't fully understand their rights AND obligations until they're in the midst of a family court case.

Did you know? In Michigan, both parents have equal rights to their child, regardless of marital status - but these rights come with specific responsibilities.

Every family situation is unique. Your rights shouldn't be left to chance.

Our Owner and Managing Attorney, Rachel Kelley, shares an important reminder about child support reviews in Michigan.

👉 Did you know your child support can be recalculated — even if nothing has changed?

💡 Here’s what you should know:
If your current child support order is more than three years old, you can request a review through the court.
You can also ask for a recalculation if there’s been a change in circumstances that would modify your current order by 10% or $50 (whichever is greater).

Time and life changes happen — make sure your child support order still reflects your family’s current situation. 💙
