🌴Big News for FLORIDA Families:

Florida’s major probate updates take effect July 1, 2026. The state legislature passed significant reforms (including CS/SB 1500 and HB 1337) designed to streamline uncontested estates and reduce delays caused by financial institutions.

🗣️ Key updates include the following key changes to Florida probate law:

💰Increased “Small Estate” Limits: The threshold for summary administration (a faster, simplified probate process) has been significantly doubled. It is available for estates valued up to $150,000 (up from $75,000).

🏦Mandatory Access to Safe Deposit Boxes: Financial institutions are now legally required to grant a Personal Representative access to the decedent’s safe deposit box upon presentation of valid Letters of Administration. Banks can no longer stall or refuse access.

👩🏼‍⚖️Strengthened PR Enforcement Powers: Personal Representatives (PRs) now have clearer legal authority and tools to take action against banks or third parties that delay valid probate processes.

A quick February reminder: show your loved ones some extra love this month by reviewing your estate plan and beneficiary designations. Life changes and your documents should reflect where you are right now, not where you were a few years ago.

It only takes about 15 minutes to make sure your beneficiary forms on retirement accounts, life insurance, and other assets are up to date. It's one of the easiest ways to make sure the people you love are taken care of.
