Common Estate Planning MYTHS—
1. Only elderly people need wills: FALSE.
Everyone needs a will. If you are married, have children, or have any property, you need to plan for life when you aren’t around. if you don’t make these specific decisions, the Commonwealth’s laws will decide for you.
2. My family members love each other and they can work it out: FALSE.
Your family members could be the exception to the rule. Odds are they won’t be. Nothing breaks family ties like family members fighting for his or her “share” of your things. If you truly want your family members to maintain their relationships with one another, be as specific as possible in a legal document that memorializes your wishes.
