⚖️ This Day in Legal History ⚖️

On May 29, 1865, President Andrew Johnson issued a proclamation offering amnesty and pardon to many former Confederates who were willing to take an oath of allegiance to the United States.

For the South, this marked an important moment in the long and difficult road that followed the Civil War. It raised major legal questions about restoration of rights, executive authority, and how a divided nation begins to rebuild under the rule of law.

⚖️ This Day in Legal History ⚖️

On May 22, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act into law, one of the most influential pieces of land legislation in American history.

The law allowed individuals and families to claim federal land, provided they improved and lived on it. In doing so, it helped shape property ownership across the United States and opened the door for millions of Americans to build homes, farms, and communities.

An accident can turn your world upside down in a matter of seconds.

The physical, emotional, and financial impact can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to face it alone. After an injury, we encourage three important steps:

1️⃣ Lean on your faith for strength and comfort.
2️⃣ Follow the guidance of trusted medical professionals as you heal.

Have you gotten a chance to meet Tracy yet?

Born and raised here in Jesup, Tracy is a 1985 “Yellow Jacket” graduate of Wayne County High School. Upon graduating from Wayne County High School, Tracy attended Georgia Southwestern University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. While at Georgia Southwestern, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and played for the Southwestern Hurricane football team from 1985-1986. After a back injury ended his football career, an orthopedic doctor told him he would never play football or lift weights again, so Tracy went on to win 1987 NPC Mr. Teenage Georgia just to prove the doctor wrong.

Tracy worked as an Intensive Probation Officer for the State of Georgia for 13 years and while doing this, began law school at Florida Coastal School of Law and earned his Juris Doctorate in 2001.

In 2015, Tracy was voted Wayne County’s Favorite Attorney, and was a nominee in 2020 as well. In April 2021, Tracy was appointed as the Jeff Davis County Solicitor General by Governor Brian Kemp. In January 2025, Tracy was appointed as the Wayne County Juvenile Judge.

Tracy is a sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of the Odum Church of God and is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys both hunting and fishing. He’s a family man, proudly bragging on his family anytime he can.

⚖️ This Day in Legal History ⚖️

On May 15, 1800, President John Adams ordered the federal government to relocate from Philadelphia to the newly established capital of Washington, D.C.

The move helped lay the foundation for the permanent seat of the nation’s government — including Congress, the executive branch, and eventually the United States Supreme Court.

Establishing a central location for the federal government was a key step in shaping how laws would be created, interpreted, and enforced across the country.
