Notice the umbrella? Well, a recent rainy day in Muskogee was brightened with a few rays of good news in a client's probate case! On this day we successfully defended an estate from an unfair claim and made sure the clients were reimbursed for money they had paid. Regardless of the weather outside, it is always easy to smile outside the courtroom when we're able to help and protect our clients.

Meet Kathleen Pence, founder of Pence Law Firm, P.C.

Kathleen is a Tulsa native, attorney, wife, mother of three, lifelong musician, and someone who genuinely loves the work she does.

After gaining experience in judicial chambers and private firms, she launched Pence Law Firm in her hometown in 2015. Since then, she has dedicated her practice to helping individuals and families navigate estate planning, probate, trust litigation, and other complex estate matters.

For Kathleen, this work is about much more than legal documents. It's about listening to people, understanding their families, and helping them make difficult decisions with greater clarity and confidence. I wish we talked about estate planning more; kind of like we talk about financial planning.

We’re comfortable talking about saving for retirement, investing, insurance, paying down debt, and building financial security. It's natural to spend decades thinking about how to build and manage what we have, but we’re much less comfortable talking about what happens to all of it if we become incapacitated or when someone passes away.

In my work, I’ve seen why that part of the conversation matters.

You can have a carefully managed financial portfolio and still leave your family trying to determine who is in charge, which assets go where, how property should be handled or where important information can be found when it’s needed most. Which is unfortunately often the first time families realize how important estate planning really is.

That’s why I don’t see estate planning as separate from financial planning. Building a secure financial future should also include making a plan for what happens to everything you’ve worked so hard to build. And that conversation doesn’t have to be about fear or preparing for the worst. It can simply be about creating clarity for yourself today and for the people you care about tomorrow.

Today we have another trip to court. This time it's a probate case here in Tulsa County. These hearings are especially important because they bring closure for our clients. By ending a painful chapter in their lives and starting a new "normal" without their loved one, it allows them to begin moving forward. This kind of work is especially important and impactful for our clients.
