Attorney Matt Clement was recently awarded the President’s Award at the annual conference of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys. Matt received this well-deserved honor for being a leader in his field, especially in light of the record-setting verdict (in excess of $1.5 billion) achieved through his leadership this last year. In that case, Matt, joined by CVRS attorneys Kari Schulte and Josh Moore, and CVRS friends and colleagues with the Forrest Weldon Law Group (Dallas, TX), successfully represented three individuals suffering with cancer that resulted from exposure to Monsanto’s Roundup product. As one of the largest verdicts in Missouri history, $1,561,200,000.00 was awarded last night by a Cole County jury in a case presented by a trial team including CVRS attorneys Matt Clement, Kari Schulte and Josh Moore.

We fought alongside exceptional friends and co-counsel from Texas to seek justice for 3 individuals who live in various places across the US. These individuals suffer Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma due to their use of Monsanto’s Round Up. Our clients are sick, living with pain and with permanent disabilities - but they joined hands to stand up to a huge corporation. A corporation that has gained to the tune of $100 billion on the back of its lethal product.

Overwhelming evidence was presented showing Monsanto knows Round Up causes cancer - and has known for decades. We are proud of the jury for standing up for our clients.

Monsanto hired an army of 100 attorneys and moved these Round Up cases to Jefferson City - looking for a rural venue. Our team was a tenth of theirs, but we didn’t bat an eye. We knew the people of this community would value life over money. Our clients are amazing people, who have suffered unimaginable pain. We were proud to fight for them. We are proud of our community for delivering justice.

Congratulations Natalie Sommerer! She has been selected as a 2023 National Merit Finalist.

High school juniors entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application. They provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

From over 16,000 Semifinalists, approximately 15,000 advanced to the Finalist level.
Finalists were notified this February.

All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference.
