Please join us for a presentation by the Honorable Timothy J. Corrigan, the Chief Judge of the Middle District of Florida. Judge Corrigan will discuss the state of our District, including the Court’s current caseload and the challenges faced by our District as we begin 2023. There will also be a brief presentation by Jim Kowalski (President, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid) and Lauren Purdy (Shareholder, Gunster) encouraging pro bono participation and identifying opportunities to accept pro bono appointments. This event will take place at the Bryan Simpson United States Courthouse and include a catered lunch. You can RSVP through our website, www.jaxfedbar.org, or by sending an email to [email protected]. We hope you will join us to learn more about the happenings around the Middle District and what is on the horizon for the Jacksonville Division.

Our mission is to strengthen the federal legal system and administration of justice by serving the interests and the needs of all of our members, as well as their clients, employers, and the public at large.

The Honorable Harvey E. Schlesinger Spirit of Giving Luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 8, at The River Club. We are pleased to announce that this year’s Spirit of Giving speaker will be State Attorney Melissa Nelson. Ms. Nelson was elected State Attorney for Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit in 2017 and re-elected without opposition in 2021. Since taking office, Ms. Nelson has established several smart justice initiatives, including the reform of the juvenile civil citation process and the creation of Florida’s first Conviction Integrity Review. Ms. Nelson will touch on these in her discussion of how the State Attorney’s Office pursues justice in criminal actions, and will highlight the important role of the criminal defense bar in ensuring our system of justice works as it should. In addition to the remarks from Ms. Nelson, the Court will present “Spirit of Giving” awards to lawyers who have gone above and beyond in providing service to those in need. This luncheon is free for members and $30 for non-members.

Registration is now open. Please register by visiting our website at https://www.jaxfedbar.org/event/save-the-date-spirit-of-giving-luncheon or by emailing Maria Daniels, [email protected].
