On June 30, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed HB 1245, our landmark biosolids reform legislation, along with the $5 million in funding for the Biosolids Grant Program. While these decisions are frustrating and difficult to accept, they do not diminish what we accomplished together.

Thanks to your support, the 2026 Legislature approved the statewide phaseout of Class B biosolids, which is the MOST contaminated and environmentally damaging form of sewage sludge. This historic achievement represents one of the biggest advances in biosolids policy in Florida's history and will protect our St. Johns River.

Although HB 1245 did not become law this year, it passed both chambers with unanimous bipartisan support. The Legislature clearly recognized that stronger safeguards are needed from sewage sludge pollution and that our precious water resources deserve greater protection.

Every administration brings new opportunities to revisit important issues and reassess priorities. We remain hopeful that future leaders will place an even greater emphasis on protecting Florida's priceless waterways, drinking water, springs, and communities through thoughtful, science-based policies.

Your continued commitment promises this isn’t the end of the story, but another chapter in our ongoing mission to protect Florida's lands, waters, and wildlife. Thank you for standing with us!
