If you are involved in an accident here are some things you should do and some things you should avoid:

-DO take a breach and calm down after an accident. Your addrenalin is going to go through the roof and it could hurt your case if you say something to the other side out of anger or frustration
-DO call the police no matter what. That report is your ticket to clear liability and to make sure the other side doesnt make something up about what actually happened.
-DO take photos of your car, the other car, the road and your injuries.
-DO contact your insurance company and file a claim right away.
-DO call an attorney to make sure that your rights are protected and to make sure you receive maximum compensation for your injuries

-DONT flee from the scene without getting some sort of report or exchange of information from the police
-DONT leave your car in the road if the damages are minor and the car can be moved. You should take a picture of the other car before you move your car, IF IT IS SAFE, just in case they decide to take off.
-DONT get aggressive with the at fault party, your charachter and behavior can be brought up later to limit your recovery
-DONT ever take responsibility for the accident even if you are not 100% sure what happened
