Jordan Law Firm, LLC and Associates are pleased to announce a $3,500.00 essay scholarship competition. We look forward to awarding this scholarship to one worthy applicant.

Eligibility:
• The scholarship is open to any student, regardless of age, race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.
• The student must be enrolled full-time at a Historically Black College or University with a course load of at least 12 hours.
• The student must be registered to vote in the November 2020 election.
• The student must be in good academic standing.
• The student must be active in community service.

How To Apply:

• Deadline to request an application is September 15, 2020.
• Deadline to submit a completed application is October 15, 2020.

Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith offered a balanced account of police officers who operate with valor and honor. He specifically detailed the names of officers who were wounded or died on duty. Chief Smith indicated that for every officer terminated there are about 10-15 who are receiving meritorious awards for serving the community.

District Attorney Danny Carr wants the entire criminal justice system to be reviewed from the judiciary, sentencing laws, enforcement, probation/parole and expungements. He pointed out a lot of flaws in the system as a whole that can be reviewed and addressed.

Sheriff Mark Pettway finds it very difficult to hire qualified African American candidates, between the ages of 18-34, to join the Jefferson County Sheriff Department. He attributed this difficulty to the negative view that demographic has towards law enforcement.
