IRS takes new steps to ensure people with children receive $500 Economic Impact Payments
The Internal Revenue Service continues to look for ways to help people who were unable to provide their information in time to receive Economic Impact Payments for their children. As part of that effort, the Internal Revenue Service announced today it will reopen the registration period for federal beneficiaries who didn’t receive $500 per child payments earlier this year.

The IRS urges certain federal benefit recipients to use the IRS.gov Non-Filers tool starting Aug. 15 through Sept. 30 to enter information on their qualifying children to receive the supplemental $500 payments.

Those eligible to provide this information include people with qualifying children who receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement benefits and Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits and did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019.

The IRS anticipates the catch-up payments, equal to $500 per eligible child, will be issued by mid-October.

WHAT'S IN PRESIDENTS TRUMP'S FOUR CORONAVIRUS RELIEF EXECUTIVE ORDERS?
$400 weekly federal supplemental unemployment aid on top of state unemployment; this $400 will replace the $600 additional that expired end of July

Assistance to Renters and Homeowners: federal efforts to help renters and homeowners avoid eviction or foreclosure for failing to make monthly payments. Trumps administration will identify available funds to provide temporary financial assistance to renters and homeowners who are struggling to meet their monthly rental or mortgage obligations as a result of the Covid 19 financial hardships.

Payroll Tax Holiday: Trump defers the payroll tax from Sept 1 to Dec 31, 2020 for employees making $100,000 or less a year. Did you know:
According to the IRS, unemployment benefits are taxable income. This means that any unemployment compensation that you receive from a state or the federal government must be included in your income and will be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate. This includes the additional $600 per week received due to Covid 19 layoffs; Make sure withholding is being taken from your unemployment benefits or that you are saving money to assist with year end taxes; Also, Unemployment Compensation is not Earned Income so does not qualify for Earned Income Credit
