This recent Reuters report helps explain why many immigration cases have been taking longer than usual at . According to the agency’s internal guidance, officers are now required to complete enhanced security and background checks, including expanded FBI criminal record reviews, before approving many pending applications.

As a result, cases that were already in process may be paused or re‑vetted, which can extend processing times.

At this time, USCIS has not provided a specific timeline for when normal processing speeds will fully resume. While the agency has stated that delays should be “brief,” it is not possible to predict how long it will take USCIS to complete these additional checks and adjust its workflow.

President Donald Trump's administration has mandated what it calls "enhanced" security checks for immigration applicants, according to internal guidance sent to the employees of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which ‌is part of the Department of Homeland Security.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR DACA CLIENTS***

If you have filed your DACA renewal, you will very likely receive a biometrics appointment (fingerprints and photograph) at a USCIS Application Support Center (ASC). This is a change from the procedures of the last several years

~Why is this happening now?~

During the COVID-19 pandemic, USCIS closed its offices and stopped scheduling biometrics appointments. Instead, the agency reused the fingerprints and photographs it already had on file from previous appointments. This practice continued for several years.
However, on December 12, 2025, USCIS issued a new policy (Alert PA-2025-29) that limits the reuse of biometric photographs to a maximum of 36 months (3 years). This means that if your last biometrics appointment was more than 3 years ago, as is the case for the vast majority of DACA recipients, USCIS will schedule a new mandatory appointment for you.

~What you need to know:~

• If you receive a biometrics appointment notice, you MUST attend. Failing to attend can result in the DENIAL of your DACA renewal.

• Bring a valid photo ID and your appointment notice to your appointment.

• Biometrics appointments are adding extra time to renewal processing. File your renewal 120 to 150 days before your current DACA expires. Contact BKR around six (6) months before expiration of your DACA.

• If you cannot attend on the scheduled date, contact USCIS BEFORE your appointment to reschedule. Do not simply fail to show up.

• There are no reports of ICE arrests at biometrics appointments. These appointments take place at Application Support Centers, not ICE offices.

¡NO ESPERE!

Attention DACA Recipients: Act Now to Protect Your Work Authorization.

If you currently hold DACA, it is critical that you begin the renewal process for both your DACA and Employment Authorization Document 5–6 months prior to expiration. DO NOT WAIT!

USCIS processing times for DACA renewals can take up to five months. Filing less than 150 days before expiration significantly increases the risk that your work permit may lapse before USCIS issues a decision—potentially jeopardizing your employment.

If your Employment Authorization Document expires within the next six months, contact Broyles and Ricafort immediately to discuss your renewal strategy.

Is this truly the best strategy this Administration can offer for enforcing civil immigration law? It calls to mind the same judgment Kristi Noem displayed when, unable to think of a single humane alternative for her “out-of-control” dog, she chose to shoot it. Think about that. Who shoots their own dog because they lack a better solution? And who then asks the public to ignore what they plainly saw and accept a self-serving rewrite of events?

Yet this is the person our elected officials placed in charge of the largest federal law-enforcement agency in the nation—empowered to hire thousands of armed agents, cloak them in anonymity and near-immunity, and deploy them into democratic cities under the banner of civil immigration enforcement. Responsibility for what follows does not vanish into the bureaucracy. It rests squarely with every supporter of this regime; with every Republican member of Congress who voted to confirm Secretary Noem; and with every ICE officer who pulls on a mask and stands beside Gregory Bovino. Accountability will come—if not first in a court of law, then inevitably in the court of public opinion. That is the American way. And when it does, do not ask for mercy. You knew better. You made your CHOICE Mr. Bovino. The consequences are yours alone. As you like to say: FAFO.

The methods are wrong. The strategy is wrong. Take the masks off long enough to see it. What you are doing is wrong, and no legitimate objective justifies the damage you are inflicting on free communities and the American people. This is not law enforcement; it is intimidation. Stop acting like fascist thugs. Take the six-figure signing bonus, go back to school, and learn what is plainly true: there are countless better, lawful, and humane ways to achieve immigration compliance.
