La administración de Trump acaba de anunciar cambios drásticos en el proceso para obtener la residencia permanente. The Trump administration has just announced some drastic changes to the green card process. They claim they will be stopping the process of giving green cards to people from within the United States, and instead require people to travel outside the U.S. for an immigrant visa interview.

This WILL be fought in the courts. For now, if you're in the process of getting a green card from within the United States, continue the process. Continue to attend your immigration appointments inside the U.S. Do NOT leave the United States without first speaking to an immigration attorney.

Is your application with USCIS not moving? USCIS has paused almost all applications for people born in certain countries, including Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba, Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria, Tonga, and many more. Unfortunately this means individuals from these countries, who have paid for and met all the qualifications for green cards, work permits, citizenship, and other benefits, are stuck waiting. Hopefully the pause is lifted soon--we'll let you know on this page once it is.

Grandes cambios en el procesamiento de visas de inmigrante

El gobierno de los Estados Unidos ha suspendido temporalmente la emisión de visas de inmigrante (residencias permanentes tramitadas en los consulados) para personas nacidas en varios países, incluyendo Brasil, Camboya, Colombia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haití, Nicaragua, Rusia, Tailandia, Uruguay y muchos más. Otros tipos de visas todavía se están otorgando, pero si usted está tratando de traer a un familiar o empleado nacido en uno de estos países a los Estados Unidos con una visa de inmigrante (green card), tendrá que esperar hasta que se levante esta suspensión.

Los familiares y empleadores aún deben presentar los formularios I‑130 e I‑140. Estos casos todavía se están procesando; únicamente el último paso de aprobación de la visa de inmigrante está en pausa. The U.S. government has stopped granting immigrant visas to people from several countries. The full list is in the link below. Countries include Brazil, Cambodia, Colombia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua, Russia, Thailand, Uruguay, and many more. Other types of visas are still being granted, but if you're trying to bring a family member or employee who was born in one of those countries into the U.S. on an immigrant visa (green card), they'll have to wait.

Family members and employers should still file I-130s and I-140s. The government is still processing these cases--they're just not approving the final step. They are granting fiance visas, so couples who are not married yet should consider waiting to get married until the immigrant is in the United States on the fiance visa.
