Since our office moved downtown in 2019, I've always wondered what was there before. Alicia and I have looked through books, websites, etc., but no real answers. I came across this post today, and now we know - mystery solved! Our office was a J.C. Penney store back over a century ago. I loved discovering more about Huntsville history.

May 13, 1893-The Huntsville Gazette-Huntsville should turn out in force and make the educational meeting at the courthouse Monday night next the important and interesting occasion it should be. Every citizen should be interested in securing to our city a school house for the colored school. Over 300 pupils are enrolled in this school and are crowded into four small rented rooms, without any of the recognized modern school facilities and improvements. Decatur and Tuscumbia each have school buildings that put Huntsville to blush in shame.
