Huntsville International Airport Chief Executive Officer Butch Roberts will be retiring on Jan. 1, the airport announced Tuesday.

Roberts’ retirement will conclude a 40-year career at the Port of Huntsville.

Amy Murphree will assume the role of CEO for the Port of Huntsville starting Dec. 1. Murphree has served as the chief legal officer for the Port of Huntsville since 2019.

CEO retiring effective Jan. 1.

McDaniel said that he believes there are victims in AI-generated child s*xual abuse materials.

“The victim would be the public, in my opinion,” McDaniel said. “Anything AI-produced is based on a human model. So who’s the human model? I mean there’s somebody that’s the basis for this.”

“I would assume the defense lawyer has already filed a motion saying the Alabama statute is unconstitutional because of the ruling in Wisconsin,” McDaniel said. “But there is no Alabama, there is no ruling in the 11th Circuit, there’s no United States Supreme Court decision on it.”

Huntsville attorney Mark McDaniel, who does not represent Arrington, expects defense attorneys across the country to use the ruling when challenging similar prosecutions.

“I guarantee you, every criminal defense lawyer now that has a case like this is going to raise that issue,” McDaniel said. “Any case in state can end up in federal court if a constitutional issue is raised, which will certainly be raised now.”

A federal appeals court ruling protecting the private possession of entirely computer-generated child p**nography inside a home could create a new legal argument in Madison County’s first case involving exclusively AI-generated images.

“There’s two parts to a capital murder case,” Huntsville defense attorney Mark McDaniel started explaining. “There is the guilty or innocent part. That’s where the state puts on its case and jury determines whether or not they’re guilty or innocent. If the jury finds them guilty of capital murder, then that same jury will decide whether or not the person dies.”

Defense attorney Mark McDaniel has been a part of over 100 capital murder cases in his career, including many with a possible death sentence on the line.

But no case quite like this.

“Police officers protect us,” McDaniel emphasized. “When somebody kills a police officer, that’s taking part of us. That’s taking part of who we are. It’s different.”

Jury selection will go into a second day in the trial for a man charged with killing a police sergeant.

July saw a record number of travelers at Huntsville International Airport as 182,556 passengers were served.

Airport officials said it is an 8.5% increase in travelers compared to July 2025 and it marks the first time the airport has surpassed the 180,000 passenger milestone.

Airport officials attribute the record growth primarily to an expansion of nonstop flight options and increased seating capacity.

“Huntsville travelers are benefiting from an elevated travel experience as our world-class airline partners introduce larger planes, increased flight frequencies, and new destinations at HSV,” said Joey Ceci, Huntsville International Airport Board Chair.

July marks the first time Huntsville International Airport has surpassed the 180,000 passenger milestone.

Mark McDaniel, an attorney with 49 years of experience who said he has handled thousands of hit-and-run cases, said the change doubles the previous penalty.

McDaniel said staying at the scene of a crash — whether it involves another vehicle or a pedestrian — can affect how a judge handles sentencing.

“Render whatever assistance you can to that person because I promise you later on if a judge is looking at the case and you stopped and you’re helping somebody, the judge is going to look at that and say, hey, okay maybe probation… versus you leave the scene of the accident and somebody is hurt or dies, man it’s going to get real bad on you at sentencing,” McDaniel said.

A new Alabama law set to take effect Oct. 1 increases the penalties for leaving the scene of a crash, elevating the offense to a Class B felony carrying a sentence of no less than two years and up to 20 years in prison.
