Durante este nuevo año nos sentimos orgullosos y bendecidos de tener la oportunidad de cambiar la vida a nuestra comunidad. ¡Este cliente llegó a nuestra oficina después de haber estado en EEUU por casi 40 años! ¡Aunque el camino fue largo y complicado (varios abogados y trámites legales bajo la ley NACARA), por fin es residente permanente!

During this new year, we feel proud and blessed to have the opportunity to change the lives of members of our community. This client came to our office after almost 40 years in the United States! Though the path was long and complicated (many attorneys and legal processes under NACARA), he finally a permanent resident!

It appears that U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services is not preparing to open its field offices and application support centers until on or after June 4, 2020. Those that had appointments that were cancelled due to the threat of COVID-19 should receive updated appointments at some point. Also remember that for now, it does not appear that the administration’s executive order restricting certain immigration will affect cases for adjustment of status or other benefits within the U.S. at this time (this order primarily affects those seeking immigrant visas—with notable exceptions—outside the U.S. for the next 60 days).

Tal parece que el Servicio de Inmigracion y Ciudadania no está preparado para reabrir sus oficinas locales y centros de atención para solicitudes (huellas) antes del 4 de junio del 2020 (podria ser hasta despues). Aquellos que tenían cita antes de que hayan sido canceladas debido a la pandemia del coronavirus deben de recibir una nueva cita eventualmente. También recuerden que, por ahora, casos que se están procesando en EEUU (ajuste de estatus u otro beneficio de inmigración) no se han vuelto afectados por la orden ejecutiva de la administración (esta orden afecta principalmente a personas que están procesando visas de inmigrante afuera del país durante los próximos 60 días).

¡Atención! Debido a la epidemia del COVID-19, conocido mejor como el coronavirus, nuestra oficina no estará atendiendo a clientes actuales ni potenciales en persona en nuestra oficina por el momento. Congratulations to our client who is now a Legal Permanent Resident, based on a petition that was filed by his sister-in-law for his wife more than 20 years ago (Derivative follow-to-join 4th preference petition). It is cases like these that remind us of not just how important it is to understand the law but also to advocate zealously on our clients’ behalf.

Muchas felicidades a nuestro cliente que ya es residente basado en una petición de su cuñada para su esposa hace mas de 20 años. This week we are proud to report that we were able to keep a green card holder in deportation proceedings here in the U.S. Though it was a long-fought battle in court, we are so happy that our client will now be able to put his past mistakes behind him and look forward to his future with his family. On a personal note, given the specific criminal issues involved in this case, this was one of the most challenging cases for me as an attorney. Nevertheless, due to the unwavering cooperation from the client and zealous advocacy we were able to seek a favorable result for this case. ¡Esta semana tuvimos la dicha de poder impedir la deportación de un cliente residente! Aunque fue una batalla dura en corte, nos alegramos muchísimo de que nuestro cliente ahora pueda velar por su futuro con su familia en los EEUU y dejar atrás los errores del pasado. Personalmente, me alegro muchísimo del éxito en este caso puesto que fue uno de los casos más difíciles y complejos de mi carrera profesional como abogado (debido a los detalles penales del caso). Sin embargo, debido a la cooperación del cliente (y su familia) y la defensa ardorosa del caso pudimos tener un resultado favorable para este caso.
