Huntsville Estate Planning Lawyer Planning for the unexpected & inevitable. Save money & time. Avoid fear & uncertainty.

One of the hardest parts of my job is sitting with a surviving spouse or a grieving family and seeing it: that moment when they realize something simple could have changed everything.

I've been in those rooms with families who lost a parent unexpectedly, had no plan in place for the kids, and had to watch everything they loved get pulled into a court process that was slow, expensive, and heartbreaking.

This video is why I do what I do. Estate planning is making sure your children are cared for, by the person you choose, if the unthinkable happens.

Watch it. Then let's talk. Visit huntsvilleestateplanninglawyers.com to schedule a consultation.

Estate planning isn’t just about what happens after death.

It’s also about protecting yourself during life.

Without a Power of Attorney or Advance Directive for Healthcare, your loved ones may have to go to court just to help you during a medical crisis.

Planning ahead gives your family clarity during difficult moments. 💜

If something happened to you tomorrow, not eventually, tomorrow, do you have a written, legal plan for who would raise your children?

I ask this question to almost every parent who sits across from me at my desk. And most of the time, they tell me they've talked about it. They know who they'd want. They've even had the conversation with that person.

But when I ask if it's in writing, if it's signed, notarized, and legally binding in Alabama, almost always, the answer is no.

Here's what most parents don't realize: without a written plan, a judge makes that call. Not you or your family. A judge who has never met your children.

You've worked too hard and loved too much to leave that decision to chance.

Huntsville has some seriously incredible street art, y'all. And apparently I cannot walk past a mural without turning it into a photo shoot.

Getting eaten by a giant koi fish? Absolutely. Riding a bicycle with angel wings? Obviously. Looking deeply contemplative next to a very judgmental blue fish? You know it.

I love this city. I love the creativity and the color and the fact that the Rocket City has soul like this tucked into its walls.
If you haven't gone exploring the murals around Huntsville, add it to your weekend list. And if you see me posing dramatically in front of one, come say hi. 😂

Happy Friday, Huntsville. See y'all in June.

A friend of mine was out cycling one day and had a freak accident.

He ended up in the hospital for weeks.

And while he was there focused on healing and getting better, nobody could take care of things for him. His bills. His paycheck. His utilities. His insurance.

The world doesn't stop spinning just because you're in a hospital bed. The mortgage still has to get paid. The lights still have to stay on.

That's exactly what a power of attorney is for. It gives someone you trust the legal authority to step in and handle things when you can't, whether that's because of an accident, a surgery, an illness, or anything else life throws at you.

You don't know how badly you need one until you need one. Don't wait for the freak accident to find out.

If you're in Alabama and you don't have a power of attorney in place, let's fix that.

Last one this month on AI and estate planning, and it might be the most important.

Let's say you used an AI tool or an online service to get your will done a few years ago. Good for you for getting it done! That matters.

But how much has your life changed since then?

New marriage? New business? New baby? Moved to Alabama? Health scare? Changed your mind about who should raise your kids?

That AI tool gave you a plan for the person you were. Not the person you are today.

Estate planning best practice is to review your documents every 3 to 5 years and any time there's a major life change. A real attorney can sit with you, understand what's changed, and make sure your plan still works for your family.

Swipe to see the most common life changes that should trigger a review.

I once charged someone $1,500 to help them get access to a $2,000 bank account.

That's not a typo.

Because their loved one passed away without any estate planning in place, we had to go through a legal process just to access an account with $2,000 in it. By the time it was done, most of that money was gone.

Don't do that to your family.

And here's something else I want parents of college students to hear: once your child turns 19, you don't automatically have the right to make medical decisions for them or access their records, even in an emergency. They need a power of attorney naming you. It's a simple document. It matters more than most people realize until the moment they need it.

If your child just headed off to college or is about to, let's get that taken care of. It doesn't have to be complicated.

Today we pause.

We remember the men and women who gave everything, who left families, who left futures, who left a life not yet fully lived so that we could have ours.

That sacrifice is something I never take lightly.

If you lost someone in service, I hope today brings you some measure of peace alongside the grief. Their legacy is real. The life they built, the love they gave, the values they passed down doesn't disappear. It lives on in the people who carry them.

To the Gold Star families, thank you doesn't come close. But thank you.

To all who have served or are serving, we are grateful.

Rest well, heroes. 🇺🇸
