What to do if there is job loss due to suspected/perceived/actual ? What if you stay home sick? Paid sick leave in California varies depending on the city where you work and your employer's policies regarding PTO. Separate from CA paid sick leave or your employer's policies, you may be entitled to EDD help: https://edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019/faqs.htm

You can also urge Congress to pass legislation to expand sick leave.

~~~ NEW LAW ALERT: 1099 v. W2? ~~~ A bill was just approved making it harder to be a 1099. A person should be a W2, not a 1099, unless: (a) The person is free from the control and direction of the hiring entity in connection with the performance of the work. (b) The person performs work that is outside the usual course of the hiring entity’s business. AND (c) The person is customarily engaged in an independently established trade, occupation, or business of the same nature as that involved in the work performed. (Some professions are exempt, and the old Borello factors still apply to those.)

This law codifies and clarifies the decision in the Dynamex Operations W. Inc. v. Superior Court (2018) 4 Cal.5th 903 case.
