Are Fixed Annuities a Good Investment?
It’s a question I hear all the time — and the answer is: it depends on what you’re trying to accomplish.
Fixed annuities aren’t designed to replace your entire investment portfolio. They’re generally designed for people who want principal protection, predictable interest, tax-deferred growth, and less exposure to stock-market volatility.
For someone approaching or already in retirement, that can be an important part of the conversation. You may not want every dollar exposed to market ups and downs — but you also don’t necessarily want all of your money sitting in a traditional savings account.
In this video, I break down how fixed annuities work, where they can fit into a retirement strategy, and some of the pros and cons to consider before purchasing one.
The key isn't asking, “Is an annuity good or bad?”
The better question is: “Is it appropriate for my situation and financial goals?”

Annuities are insurance products. Guarantees are based on the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. Withdrawals may be subject to surrender charges and taxes; withdrawals before age 59½ may also be subject to an additional federal tax.
