What would happen if your business suddenly lost access to its email, client files, payment systems, or social media accounts?

Cybersecurity is not just about keeping hackers out. It is about making sure your business can keep moving when something goes wrong.

That means knowing who has access to your systems, being able to recover your data, and having a plan before there is a problem.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and it is a good reminder that protecting your business also means protecting its ability to operate.

Protect the data.
Protect the access.
Protect the business.

I came across an article this morning about Dr. Dre’s take on AI and music, and of course it got me thinking. AI seems to be part of just about every business and technology conversation these days, but its impact on creatives is especially interesting to me.

Dr. Dre says AI isn’t a threat to music. He sees it as another tool for creativity, much like drum machines and synthesizers were when they first entered the industry.

And I agree with him…to a point.

I don’t believe AI is something creatives or business owners should automatically fear. It is an incredibly powerful tool.

But calling it a tool doesn’t answer everything.

What about ownership?

Copyright?

Using someone’s voice or likeness without permission?

Confidential information?

The data we provide to AI platforms?

And who is responsible when AI gets something very, very wrong?

Having spent a significant part of my legal career working with technology, these are the kinds of questions that fascinate me. They also sit right at the intersection of the work I do today in business, data privacy and cybersecurity.

I believe the future is less about AI versus humans and more about how humans choose to use AI.

And THAT is going to raise some fascinating business and legal questions.

But I want to hear what you think.

Is AI threatening creativity, or expanding what’s possible?

And be honest. Are you already exploring AI in your business or creative work?

POV: You finally find page 19!

Last night was the KNOW Houston Volume II Launch Event, and I got to see my feature in print for the very first time!

And apparently, I have absolutely NO poker face. 😂

What an incredible feeling to open the book and see my photo, my story, my business, and a philosophy that has become central to the way I serve my clients:

“I’m not the lawyer you call when there’s a problem. I’m the one you bring in so there isn’t one.”

THAT part. 👏🏾

I built my practice to be different. I want to be at the table while entrepreneurs are dreaming, building, negotiating, expanding, protecting their data, creating new opportunities, and deciding what comes next, not just when something has already gone wrong.

Seeing that story on the page was a MOMENT.

Thank you, KNOW Women, for featuring me in KNOW Houston Volume II and for celebrating the women who are building, creating, leading, and making things happen throughout Houston.

Now, excuse me while I go look at page 19 again. 😂

Still reflecting on this experience.

I recently completed the SmartCEO Accelerator Program, and what I’ll remember most isn’t the certificate. It’s the people, the conversations, the lessons, and the opportunity to grow alongside an incredible group of entrepreneurs and business leaders.

One of the highlights was having the opportunity to share my perspective as a business attorney and entrepreneur on a panel discussing supplier frameworks and scaling strategies. The conversation reinforced something I believe deeply: growth doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intention, preparation, relationships, and the courage to think bigger.

I’m grateful for every lesson learned, every connection made, and every opportunity to contribute.

The program may be complete, but the work continues.

Onward and upward.

Still smiling from the 94th South Central Regional Conference of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Shreveport showed up, and so did the “Sensational” South Central Region. Over 5,000 sorors gathered under the theme “The R.E.A.L. Deal: Betting on Service and Sisterhood.” And listen… the energy, the excellence, the sisterhood? Unmatched.

So proud to be a member of Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter and to celebrate these incredible accomplishments:
💗💚 EAF Platinum Chapter
💗💚 1st Place: Chapter Exhibit
💗💚 1st Place: SOAR International Award
💗💚 1st Place: Strengthen Our Sisterhood International Award
💗💚 1st Place: Generation Next International Award
💗💚 2nd Place: Outstanding Scrapbook

Excellence lives here. Period.

One of my favorite parts of the weekend? Spending real time with the undergraduates of Epsilon Lambda Chapter at the University of Houston. Riding together, laughing, talking, and just getting to know them beyond the formal moments… that meant a lot.

It’s something special about pouring into the next generation while learning from them at the same time.

Grateful for the memories, the moments, and the mission we share.

The work continues… and I’m here for it.

There’s something powerful about being in a room full of small business owners who are committed to leveling up.

was exactly that kind of room.

The session, “Digital Marketing Success in 2026,” was packed with real, actionable insight for anyone navigating business in today’s digital landscape.

I’m still thinking about my takeaways:

✅People buy from those they KNOW, LIKE & TRUST. Algorithms change. Relationships don’t.

✅ What worked in your marketing 3 years ago? Leave it there. The landscape has shifted and your strategy needs to shift with it.

✅ Social commerce isn’t optional anymore. It’s a revenue channel that demands a current, intentional strategy.

✅ Creator ecosystems are changing how brands build trust and reach new people.

✅ Your audience is already telling you what they want through their behavior. Learning to read those signals is how you show up for them before they even know they need you.

✅ Your brand deserves your attention. Reflect. Refine. Promote boldly.

I also loved meeting fellow small business owners like , hearing about their journeys, and making genuine connections. That’s the know, like & trust principle in action.

And the presenter, Shavonnah Schreiber?! My sorority sister! Alpha Kappa Alpha women are EVERYWHERE — leading, teaching, inspiring. I love to see it!

Had a great time attending Network & Nourish luncheon this week.

I appreciated the opportunity to connect with other business owners and professionals who are building with intention and are open to collaboration and potential partnerships. Spaces like this are a reminder of how powerful it is to be in community with people who are thoughtful about where they’re headed and how they’re growing.

I’m always energized by rooms that bring together people who care about growing strong, well-positioned businesses and supporting one another along the way.

Grateful for the connections made and looking forward to staying connected.

Today is Data Privacy Day.

Most entrepreneurs and small businesses don’t think about privacy until something goes wrong—but by then, the damage is already done.

Privacy isn’t fear-based.
It’s foresight.

And for growing and emerging businesses, foresight is everything.

Smart businesses treat privacy as strategy, not an afterthought—because privacy done right protects more than data; it protects the business.

This is me at 19 years old.
Fresh out of my first year of college.
First time getting on a plane.
Stepping into the U.S. Air Force Reserves not quite knowing what was waiting for me on the other side.

Bright smile, sharp uniform, standing tall, even before I fully understood what it really meant to serve.

I looked confident in that picture, but whew! Those first few days? A different story. I was tired, overwhelmed, and scared. I remember thinking, “What have I gotten myself into?”

But somewhere in the middle of the early mornings, the drills, the marching, and the “figure it out and move” rhythm of it all… I found my footing.

Next thing you know, I was squad leader.

The military is where I first learned what leadership feels like—before the titles, before the career, before adulthood fully set in.

What I learned then has carried me every day since: Sometimes the things that scare you are the very things that reveal who you were always meant to be.

And here is my squad—young women from different cities, different backgrounds, and stories, all figuring out who we were becoming.

There was no room for division. No room for ego. No room for “us v. them.”

Just commitment, discipline, and a shared belief that we could accomplish more side-by-side than alone.

The uniform may be folded away, but the lessons are stitched into who I am.

To every Veteran, in every branch, past and present: Your service mattered them. It still matters now. I honor you.

On this Veteran’s Day, I honor every man and woman who served, in uniform, in community, in family, in sacrifice. Service takes many forms, and all deserve acknowledgement.

Happy Veteran’s Day!

What song or cadence still lives rent-free in your head? I’ll go first. Reveille! Blasting through the speakers every single morning. Listen, I jumped out of that bed like the building was under attack. Every. Time. No warning. No gentle wake-up. Just BAM—get up! Whew! The way my spirit would leave my body for a second.

I know I’m not the only one that still hears it.
