They can hear what's happening. But can they do anything about it? 🏥

Most people sign a HIPAA release and assume they're covered. Then a real emergency hits and the person they trusted most can only listen while doctors wait for someone with actual authority.

Here's the difference in plain terms:
▶️ A HIPAA release lets people you choose access your private medical information
▶️ A Medical Power of Attorney lets someone make medical decisions when you can't speak for yourself
▶️ HIPAA works anytime, even when you're fully capable and just want family looped in
▶️ Medical POA only activates if you're incapacitated, never before
▶️ Doctors can share information under HIPAA, but they can't take instructions from that person

You need both. One keeps your people informed, the other keeps your care moving when every hour counts.
