Our Story

Chris A. Spofford is a Family Law and Divorce Attorney in the Galleria Area of Houston, Texas with more than 30 years of experience. He has been defending the rights of men, women and children in Texas Family Law matters since 1986 and founded his own law office in 1993. Over that time, he has handled thousands of divorce and Family Law matters. Chris has tried everything from a one hour dispute to a month long trial. He has extensive experience with courts and family law judges in Harris County, Fort Bend County and Brazoria County.

He has distinguished himself during intense courtroom trials as well as by innovating in alternatives to family law litigation, such as divorce mediation and collaborative family law.

Chris believes in your right to choose and will defend your rights as forcefully as necessary in all areas of Family Law. Chris A. Spofford was Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1993, and re-certified in 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013. He earned the distinction of being a Super Lawyer as published in Texas Monthly and Texas Super Lawyers magazine in 2009 and has been noted as one of Houston's Top Family Lawyer for numerous years. Chris has served on the board and as president of Gulf Coast Family Law Specialists; director on the board of the Houston Bar Association, Family Law Section and the Houston Lawyer Referral Service. He was among the first lawyers in Texas trained in collaborative family law (January 2000). He has participated in numerous family law cases using the collaborative model; is a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals; and is a member of the first Collaborative Law practice group to be formed in the Houston area. He completed mediation training in 1993 and has mediated more than 1,000 family law cases.
