Arguing a case to the Supreme Court of Texas is exciting. Arguing to the Court at Baylor University, where four generations of my family have attended, was both thrilling and moving. Win or lose, this was a good day.

I’m excited to share that my law review article has been published! It discusses how cutting-edge litigation management techniques can level the playing field when litigating against larger and better funded opponents. It has been published in the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, which is the nation's oldest law review dedicated to the art of trial advocacy.

Thanks to the Journal. And special thanks to my friends and colleagues at the Baylor Law School.

You can read it at the link below, and I'm happy to discuss it with anyone who's interested.

For organizations around the world, outsourcing various functions and departments has become an ordinary part of doing business. Legal services are no exception. In fact, according to Deloitte’s 2019 Global Outsourcing and Insourcing Survey, nearly two-thirds (65%–67%) of organizations everywhere outsource legal opinions and counsel, and even more respondents (15%–23%) said they planned to do so this coming year. One important decision in the lifecycle of a growing company is when to hire its first in-house counsel. Frequently, this issue arises at a time in the evolution of an organization before there is a need for a full-time employee in this role or room in the corporate budget for a highly compensated general counsel. Other factors may drive the decision of whether to hire an internal attorney including costs, how the function will integrate with the current management and whether there is enough work for a full-time employee. When to devote resources to this role is equally important as how to devote those resources.
