You spend your career showing up for everyone else. It's okay to need someone to show up for you, too.

If you're a first responder, you don't have to wait until you're falling apart before you ask for help.

Sometimes recognizing that you need support is the strongest thing you can do for yourself.

Building the Lady Law Shield team has been very intentional.

I want people around me who genuinely believe in supporting law enforcement and first responders, and want to make a difference in their lives.

Right now, I'm the only one on the team with law enforcement experience, but we have people with military connections, military spouses, and others who are deeply passionate about this community.

And as we grow, I'm going to keep looking for people who bring that same heart to the work.

It took me years to find professional direction after leaving a career I thought I’d have for life. Now, I use that experience to help other first responders navigate workplace problems.

I sat down with Steve Bisson to talk about what happened during my time at the sheriff’s office, the harassment, discrimination, and retaliation I experienced, and how that experience shaped the next chapter of my career.

If you're the subject or witness in an Internal Affairs investigation, be very careful about who you talk to.

Your friends, coworkers, supervisors, and other people in the department are not the same as your attorney or union representative.

Talking about an active IA investigation can create another problem for you; and I've seen agencies use alleged violations of confidentiality as the reason for discipline or termination.

And when you're sitting in that IA interview, remember: listen to the question, answer only the question, and then stop talking.

My biggest regret from my time at the sheriff's office?

I didn't officially report what was happening to me.

My captain knew. Other people knew. But I never made the formal complaint, and that meant the agency wasn't legally required to take action.

That's something I don't want other first responders to learn the hard way.

One of the most meaningful parts of what I do now is helping people go from feeling completely overwhelmed and out of control to having a plan.

And when a spouse, parent, or client tells me, "I finally feel better," that's when I know we're doing what we set out to do.

You don't have to know exactly what comes next. Sometimes you just need someone to help you take the first step.

A bad boss isn't automatically an illegal boss.

But if you're being treated differently because of your gender, race, sexual orientation, a workers' comp claim, FMLA, or another protected reason, that's a different story.

The hard part is proving the why.

That's why I tell my clients to document the names, dates, conversations, decisions, and examples of how others were treated differently.

If you're wondering whether what you're experiencing crosses the line, we're here to help you figure out your next step.

This is an outrage! There's nothing "accidental" about it.

But- here's the problem- his "punishment" might be in alignment with a first time complaint if no one has ever complained about his behavior before. That's why it is so important to always file a complaint if you feel you have been violated like this- it harassment and discrimination! Make sure people like that have a history in their files!

An Internal Affairs investigation can be over on paper while the consequences continue behind the scenes.

Disclosure designations tied to Brady and Giglio obligations can continue to affect an officer’s credibility, assignments and future career opportunities

The rules aren't the same everywhere, so don't assume you know what a designation means or how it is being used.

Understanding your rights and acting early can make the difference between a temporary setback and a lasting career impact.

If your rights may have been affected (or your career may be impacted), schedule a consultation with Lady Law Shield.

I couldn't find the help I needed when I was in law enforcement. So I built it for the first responders who need it now.

I was the only woman on my SWAT team and worked in narcotics. I knew what it felt like to be afraid to report something and not know who to trust.

After I left law enforcement, I realized I could build the resource I desperately needed back then. That's why Lady Law Shield exists.

Not just for lawsuits, but for everything that comes before one: knowing what to say, what to document, what to do if retaliation happens, and having someone in your corner.

Social media has a long memory. That trending video might be forgotten next week, but screenshots can last forever.

I've seen departments discipline employees over posts they thought were harmless. I've also seen defense attorneys use social media to attack an officer's credibility.

Ask yourself this one question before you hit post:

"Would I be comfortable explaining this in front of my chief, Internal Affairs, or a jury?"

If the answer is NO, don't post it. ❌

And if your agency is using social media as a reason to target you, schedule a consultation call with Lady Law Shield today.
