Saturday afternoon, and the office is empty — but the desk isn't.
Somewhere in Tennessee this weekend, a man is going to check his mail and find the tracking number for a motion that's already been delivered to the clerk. Somewhere in Missouri, a woman is going to spend Sunday not hunched over a laptop trying to decipher court forms, because hers are already done, tabbed, and sitting in a stack exactly like this one.
That's the thing about this work that never gets old. The weekend before a filing is supposed to be anxious. It's supposed to be the part where you second-guess every line and wonder if you missed a deadline. But when the paperwork's right — when every exhibit is ordered, every caption is formatted, every clerk's preference is respected — the weekend becomes something else entirely. Friday, and we already cleared the desk before two o'clock.
That's not a humblebrag — it's the actual reward of this work. A stack of motions finalized. Petitions formatted. Every tabbed exhibit sitting exactly where a clerk in three different states is going to see it on Monday morning. No panic. No scramble. Just five people who called us this week with nothing but a conviction they were tired of carrying, and a half-dozen envelopes that are already sealed and stamped.

He didn't know his record might be eligible for expungement until his daughter's teacher pulled him aside and mentioned it. The other was a woman in South Carolina, five years off probation, who'd been staring at blank forms every Sunday night for eight months and never hit print.
Neither of them needed a lawyer. Both of them needed someone who knows exactly what the clerk in their county wants to see — right down to the font on the caption page.
