Friends of the Appomattox Regional Library System

The Hopewell-Prince George Friends of the Library is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Federal Tax ID is 54-1444884.

Role of the Friends

Advocacy: The friends are able to advocate on behalf of the library at the local, state, and federal levels. Financial: The friends help provide the resources for additional programming; much-needed equipment, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year. Service: Many of our friends choose to give the gift of their time to the Friends bookstor

Hours of Operation
Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday
10:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Located at the Hopewell Library on the first floor to the left of the main entrance. We are a used bookstore, stocking a selection of fiction, classics, nonfiction, juvenile, and children’s books at very reasonable prices. You can search our shelves for your favorite author or just browse by subject. Each trip to our store is always a treasure hunt and you can be assured that every purchase helps us to support the Appomattox Regional Library System (ARLS). Proceeds from the bookstore support children's and adult reading programs, purchase of equipment, materials, and resources to enhance library services beyond the library’s budget.

Please drop by the Friends of the Library Bookstore. Not only will you find a wide selection of books at amazing prices, the Reader's Friend Bookstore is the home of the 3 DVDs for $1 sale. We have a broad collection of movies and television series for you to choose from. Please drop by today. We're open today until 2:30. The bookstore will also be open on Saturday from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm.

Please stop by the Friends of the Library Bookstore at the Hopewell Library Branch. You can grab these bestselling titles from Michael Connelly and James Patterson (as well as many others) for $2. You can also grab a challenging puzzle for $2. We're open tomorrow, August 20th, from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm.

Fun Fact! On this day in 1422, William Caxton, the first English Printer, was born. While Gutenburg invented the printing press, William Caxton was the first person to use a printing press to print books in English. Caxton printed over 100 different titles, including every work in English literature available at the time. One of his most popular titles was his editions of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. You can still check out the Canterbury Tales at the your local ARLS branch.

Words will rise, stories will unfold, and pizza will be shared at Poetry, Prose, and Pizza this evening at the Hopewell Library.

Join us in the HMA Room from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. for an evening celebrating the spoken and written word. Complimentary pizza from Luca Italian Restaurant will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the open mic at 6:00 p.m.

Whether you bring an original poem, a favorite passage, a short story, or simply an open ear, there is a place for you.

The evening will be hosted by our master of ceremonies, Nathan Richardson, performance poet, published author, and Frederick Douglass historian.

Come hungry for pizza, poetry, prose, and the power of a story shared aloud.
