🚫 3 Things Not to Post on Social Media During Your Divorce 🚫

1️⃣ New relationships
Posting about a new partner too soon can create unnecessary conflict and may be upsetting for your children.

2️⃣ Vacations, shopping sprees, or big purchases
If finances, support, or asset division are being discussed, photos showing expensive purchases or trips may raise questions.

3️⃣ Rants about your ex or your case
Even deleted posts, comments, or messages can resurface. Emotional posts often create more problems than solutions. Be aware people do take screenshots of posts and even if deleted it can always come back to affect you.

📱 A good rule: if you wouldn’t want a judge, mediator, or opposing counsel reading it, don’t post it.

Who gets to make school decisions after divorce?

In New Jersey, most parents share joint legal custody.

That means:
📚 Both parents should be involved in major decisions (education, special services, etc.)
📅 Both can attend meetings and school functions
📄 Both have access to academic records

🚫 One parent cannot simply “cut the other out” without a court order.

If communication breaks down, the issue can end up back in court.

🤖 A.I. can write your grocery list. It should NOT handle your divorce.
Google and chatbots can give you information. They cannot give you legal advice tailored to your life. Your divorce isn’t a template. It’s your kids; house; business; retirement; financial accounts.
A.I. doesn’t know:
❌ Your spouse
❌ Your financial history
❌ The strategy needed in your specific case
❌ How a judge in New Jersey might view your situation

And it definitely can’t stand next to you in court. Divorce is too important to DIY with a chatbot. Get real advice. Real strategy. Real protection.

📞 If you’re thinking about divorce in New Jersey, let’s talk before you rely on the internet.

In New Jersey, child support is meant to cover a child’s everyday needs

💰 Child support typically includes:
✔️ Food & groceries
✔️ Clothing
✔️ Transportation
✔️ Personal care items such as body wash; shampoo; toothpaste; etc.
✔️ Haircuts 💇‍♂️💇‍♀️
✔️ Basic entertainment for the child
✔️ Medical expenses such as prescription co-payments; over counter meds; etc.

⚖️ Know Your Rights:
If your former spouse is asking you to pay for everyday items that are already included in guideline child support, you may not be legally required to pay extra.
Before agreeing to pay additional amounts, review your court order and understand what you are legally obligated to contribute. If you’re unsure, it’s important to get guidance so you’re protected.

No kids? You still need a will. A common myth: “If I don’t have children, I don’t need a will.” In NJ, that can lead to surprises you probably don’t want.
Without a will:
The state decides who gets your assets (spoiler: not always who you’d choose)
Your money could go to extended family you’re not close to
An ex-spouse or estranged relative may still have a claim
You don’t get to choose your executor
Your pets, digital assets, and personal items may be overlooked
With a will, you control:
✔️ Who inherits
✔️ Who handles your estate
✔️ What happens to sentimental items
✔️ How things are handled quickly and privately

Having no children doesn’t mean having no plan.
It means your plan should be intentional.

⚖️ NJ Divorce Tip: When Do Marital Assets Stop?

In New Jersey, there is no automatic cut-off date for marital assets. Courts look at when the marriage was truly over, which could be:
• The date the Complaint for Divorce was filed
• The date one spouse moved out of the marital home
• The date the parties separated financially

👉 Why a Cut-Off Agreement Matters:
Once it’s clear the marriage is over, a written cut-off agreement can protect both sides by clearly defining what is marital and what is not going forward.
