What is a letter of protection or LOP?

When health insurance is available, using it for medical treatment is often the better option after an accident. But what happens when an injured person does not have health insurance or otherwise cannot obtain the treatment they need?

In some personal injury cases, a letter of protection may allow an injured person to receive medical treatment without paying the provider upfront. The medical provider instead agrees to wait for payment while the personal injury claim is pending.

Through no fault of her own, she has returned because a member of her family now requires medical care and they are no longer able to keep her.
