Your estate plan can reflect the people you love and the causes you care about.

For some families, that includes leaving a charitable gift through a will or another part of the estate plan. The important questions are what you want to support, how the gift should be structured and how it fits alongside the inheritances intended for loved ones.

Legacy planning is personal. It should reflect your values as clearly as it reflects your assets.

If charitable giving is part of your vision, Marsden Law P.C. can help you discuss how it may fit into your overall plan.

MassHealth planning often involves detailed financial records, asset information and questions about long-term care.

Before meeting with an attorney, begin gathering a clear picture of income, accounts, property, insurance and any recent asset transfers. You do not need to determine eligibility on your own. The goal is to give your legal team accurate information so they can explain which considerations apply to your situation.

MassHealth requirements can be complex and individual circumstances matter.

Marsden Law P.C. assists families with planning and MassHealth applications throughout Massachusetts.

Estate planning is not something you complete once and forget.

Families change. Assets change. The people you once selected may no longer be available or appropriate for the role. A periodic review gives you the opportunity to catch those changes before the plan is needed.

You do not need to rewrite everything simply because you review it. The first goal is to understand whether your current documents still reflect your wishes.

Use these five questions as a starting point.

Planning for a loved one with disabilities begins with understanding the life you want to help them live.

Families may want to provide for additional care, transportation, therapies, personal needs or experiences that improve quality of life. However, leaving assets directly to that person may affect eligibility for certain means-tested benefits.

A special needs trust may offer a way to provide additional support while considering programs such as MassHealth and Supplemental Security Income.

This planning is not only about protecting assets. It is about protecting dignity, stability and future opportunities.

Marsden Law P.C. helps families approach these decisions with clarity and compassion.

Creating a trust is an important step, but signing the document is not necessarily the end of the process.

The trust must also be coordinated with the property and accounts it is intended to manage. You should understand which assets are connected to it, who will act as trustee and what your family should do when the trust needs to be used.

This is where plain-language guidance matters.

You deserve more than legal documents you place in a drawer. You deserve a plan that has been explained clearly and can adapt as your life changes.

Marsden Law P.C. walks clients through the plan so they can feel confident, not overwhelmed.

An estate plan may name several people, but those people do not all have the same job.

An executor, trustee, financial agent, health care agent and guardian each serve a different purpose. In some plans, one person may fill more than one role. In others, dividing responsibilities may make more sense.

The right choices depend on your family, assets and personal wishes.

Save this overview, then talk with the people you are considering before naming them in your plan.

Choosing an executor can feel emotional. Many people immediately think of their oldest child, closest relative or most trusted friend.

Trust matters, but the role also requires time, organization and the ability to communicate calmly with family members.

Before naming someone, consider whether that person understands the responsibility, is willing to serve and can manage practical details during a difficult period. It is also important to choose a backup in case your first choice cannot act.

The right decision is not about rewarding someone you love. It is about choosing someone who can protect your wishes and guide the estate responsibly.

Marsden Law P.C. can help you understand the role before you make your choice.

Fall often brings families back into a steadier routine, which makes it a useful time to revisit decisions that may have been postponed.

Has your family welcomed a child? Have you married, divorced, purchased property or experienced a major financial change? If so, the documents and people named in your estate plan may deserve another look.

An estate plan should reflect your life as it exists today, not the circumstances you had when the documents were first signed.

If your life has changed, Marsden Law P.C. can help you review whether your plan should change with it.
