Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates

Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates Bringing stability to West Michigan families through legal services, advocacy, and education. All staff members are fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates is a nonprofit immigration law office and advocacy center. Every Tuesday from 9am to 6pm, we do consultations for new cases. You must call to schedule a consultation; we do not offer walk-in services. A consultation is required before an attorney can begin work on an immigration case. Tuesdays are the only days we do consultations. We charge $40 for consultations. Cu

rrently, because of the global pandemic, we are doing most consultations and client meetings via phone or video call. Please check with the office manager when you schedule your appointment to clarify if it will be a virtual or in-person appointment. If you have any questions about our services, please call us at (616)298-8984 or email [email protected].

Your pizza order can help keep immigrant families safe, stable, employed, and connected to their communities.

But the clock is ticking.

Only 2 days remain to support Hops at 84 East in downtown Holland and their Community Pizza fundraiser benefiting Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates.

This month’s featured pizza is piled with alfredo sauce, chicken, cherry tomatoes, Pecorino Romano, and asparagus, and every pizza sold donates $5 directly to Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates. Plus, $1 from every growler fill helps support their work, too.

Good food. Good people. Real impact.

Grab a pizza from Hops this weekend and help local families stay lawful, supported, and rooted in the community they call home.

Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates is proud to host the next session of the Grant Writing Success Academy for Immigrants, organized by Welcome Plan West Michigan!

Collaborative Agreements for Grants will walk you through everything you need to know about building strong, funder-ready partnerships. You'll learn how to write MOUs, letters of support, and collaborative agreements, how to clearly define partner roles and responsibilities, and how to tie all of that to budgets and reports. Every participant leaves with simple templates, checklists, and planning tools ready to use.

This session is presented by Trish Okolo, Development Manager at Treetops Collective, and Tricia Smith-Mulder, Owner of River City Grant Writing. We are also thrilled to have our own David Lee, Advancement Director here at Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates, joining as a guest speaker.

A big thank you to Welcome Plan West Michigan for organizing this workshop and making resources like this available to our community. We are grateful for the partnership!

Virtual only!

This is bad.

USCIS just released a policy update effective May 21st declaring that Adjustments of Status are a form of “extraordinary relief”.

This potentially makes the pathway to permanent residency (green cards) much harder and complex, and appears designed to force immigrants to return to their country of origin, where they may face instability, violence, and lack the supports available here, at home.

This likely affects pending adjustment of status applications, and will be applied to all new cases.

We will share more as we learn more. Please consider that immigrants have been dealt a serious blow by the immigration authorities. For our team, this is a somber day, about a memo that sticks to the legal background. There is and will be a human cost to this decision.

The memo, from USCIS:https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/memos/PM-602-0199-AdjustmentOfStatusAndDiscretion-20260521.pdf

Members of our team recently joined others across the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce for Community Impact Day.

We can’t fulfill our mission alone. We have outstanding support from people, businesses, and organizations throughout the region.

We’re glad to help return the favor in our community through actions including outdoor work and cleaning.
