And I’ve seen good people almost learn the hard way what happens when you don’t push back.

That’s the job.
Not just showing up.
Not just talking.

One thing I’ve learned in this profession is that great defense lawyers never stop studying the craft.

This week I had the opportunity to meet Brian Steel, one of the most respected criminal defense attorneys in the country. If you follow national cases, you’ve probably seen his work. (lawyer for Young Thug, Diddy, etc )

What impressed me most wasn’t the headlines he makes; it was the mindset behind the work.

Preparation.
Discipline.
Relentless advocacy for the client.

At the end of the day, criminal defense is about something simple but powerful: standing between an individual and the full power of the government.

The same principles that apply in the biggest cases in America apply in every courtroom, including the ones we work in every day here in Michigan.

Grateful for the chance to learn from a master of the craft and bring those insights back into the daily work we do defending our clients.

The court doesn’t care who you are.

Kim Mathers is facing misdemeanor charges in Macomb County after allegedly striking a parked vehicle and then crashing into her garage with her son and his friends reportedly inside the SUV.

Court records show she’s charged with Operating While Intoxicated and failing to stop after a property damage accident.

This isn’t her first run-in with the law, either. We break down what allegedly happened Monday night and her full legal history dating back more than two decades.

Most people only know the Salvation Army from their bell ringers and red kettles at Christmas.

That's all I knew as well...

Back in 2005, before I ever became a lawyer, I was deployed to Beaumont, Texas embedded with the Army Corps. of Engineers as a FEMA housing inspector during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We lived in tent cities, working 18+ hour days in the middle of the worst devastation I had ever seen.

And in the middle of all that chaos…
the Salvation Army showed up.

Not with fanfare.
Not for credit.
Just quietly doing the kind of work that saves lives and keeps people going when they’re at their breaking point.

They fed families who had lost everything.
They comforted people whose homes were gone.
They cleared rubble so folks could begin to rebuild their lives.
And they took care of us—the responders—when we were exhausted, overwhelmed, and sometimes completely mentally fried.

That experience changed me.
It’s why I will always support the Salvation Army.

So when WCSR asked me to partner with them for Jingle Jam this year, it wasn’t even a question.

If you can spare a little this season, please do.
A few dollars in a kettle goes a long way.

I’ve seen what they do firsthand.
And trust me—it matters more than you know.
