“Real estate agents are overpaid.” I saw a post this weekend saying that with nearly 100,000 likes.
That’s a pretty loud opinion from folks who’ve likely never tried living on 100% commission.
The median agent pulled in about $55K last year…
Before taxes.
Before broker splits.
Before dumping money into marketing, gas, clients, and deals that never close.
No salary. No benefits. No safety net.
They pay their own health insurance. Fund their own retirement.
Eat what they kill.
And they work…whenever you’re off.
Nights. Weekends. Holidays.
Because real life doesn’t happen Monday–Friday, 9–5.
They answer the calls.
They calm the chaos.
They hold deals together with duct tape and grit while everyone else is ready to walk.
And if it falls apart at the finish line, which it’s done a record amount lately, they get paid exactly $0. ZERO.
“Overpaid?” Right.
Truth is, most people wouldn’t last 90 days in this business before tapping out.
To the agents still in the game, still dealing with the pressure, the uncertainty, and still showing up for clients…
That’s not luck. That’s toughness.
Team Realtor. Every time.
