PAROLE FOR IMMIGRANT SPOUSES OF U.S. CITIZENS⁣?

⚠️⚠️In recent weeks, it’s been revealed that a new program for immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens is under consideration by the Biden Administration.⁣
⁣
The story has been buried due to the media focus on the political battles at our southwest borders.⁣⁣

👉👉According to some estimates, there are 1.1 million U.S. citizens married to immigrants – immigrants lacking the legal permission to live in the U.S.⁣
⁣
Even though details have not been released, immigrant opponents are already calling the program “amnesty”. ⁣
⁣
Nothing could be further from the truth.

The program under consideration could lead for some immigrants to permanent residence. The proposal is based on the concept of parole.⁣
⁣
👉👉It is similar to DACA (Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals) in two respects> Parole would (a) grant immigrant spouses the right to employment authorization and (b) prevent them from being deported. ⁣
⁣
Despite its limited reach, parole could provide relief for immigrants married to U.S. citizens, who have long lived in a state of fear and uncertainty.⁣
⁣
Moreover, it might prompt Congress to reform rules that have harmed not simply immigrants, but also U.S. citizens over nearly 30 years.⁣ (But I am not holding my breath for that to happen.)

🔥For several years, I have asserted in the mid-1990s, when Congress revised the hardship standard for immigration court hearings, their formula did not specify a requirement stricter than the old suspension of deportation rule.
