Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This year, we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the founding of Shades of Mass, which has proven to be a key organization in ensuring that there is representative representation in mass tort and complex litigation across the Union. I’m sending this email to ask each of you to spread the word and to assist in ensuring Shades of Mass’ continued success, and to encourage attorneys from across the country – in all walks of life – to participate in one of the most exciting and impactful legal events of the year.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Shades of Mass’ ethos and goals, DiCello Levitt co-founded Shades of Mass to lead in addressing the stark lack of diversity of attorneys leading national mass tort and other complex litigations.
In the four years since its creation, Shades of Mass has hosted three conferences (Atlanta, Miami, and Houston), featuring State Attorneys General from Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and other states, Hill Harper, Representative (and former caucus leader) Hakeem Jeffries, Representative Lucy McBath, and other prominent attorneys, politicians, academics, performing artists and national thought leaders. We’ve featured, educated, and uplifted more than 1,200 lawyers, judges, academics, and law students through our conferences, webinars, and our publication, “Blueprint for Breaking the Diversity Barrier in Multidistrict Litigation,” which was published by Westlaw in 2023, and which has been referenced by Article III judges.
Shades of Mass has also been recognized by Law.com and by news outlets across the United States.
As a result of Shades of Mass’ efforts, the mass tort world realized the most ethnically diverse leadership group ever appointed in the Hair Relaxer MDL. And positive changes keep on occurring, even in this age of attacks on diversity and access to justice.
This year, the Fourth Annual Shades of Mass Conference will be held in Los Angeles, from September 4-6, at the JW Marriott L.A. Live. Our speakers include Judge William Orrick (N.D. Cal.), Judge Michelle Childs (D.C. Cir.), a panel with Attorney General Raúl Torrez and Attorney General Ford, a performance by a Grammy Award winning artist, and key CLEs and amazing networking opportunities. It will also feature lawyers fights on behalf of millions of people who have been harmed by wrongful corporate practices.

Thank you in advance for your support. We look forward to seeing you all for an epic event.
