Over the last few years I’ve noticed a tremendous increase in bumper stickers, window decals, and even vanity plates that for some reason the driver/owner feels it’s good judgment to have vulgarity and obscenity printed for others to see.
Nothing like a driver that has to illustrate to all his love for female anatomy, ma*****na leaves, F—K the Police lettering, or the Calvin cartoon character urinating on a Ford emblem. It reminds me of the days when truck drivers would have those mud flaps with the outline of the n**e woman.
My suggestion as a judge, father, attorney, and former prosecutor is this: “DON’T DO IT! TAKE IT OFF.”
Such matters do nothing but give an officer a reason or excuse to pull you over. Just think about it, you and another individual are diving 67 in a 55 mph zone. The officer turns around and sees both vehicles. The only difference is your vehicle presents how you have a desire to embrace a woman and/or “F—K the police.” The other car has nothing more than a decal endorsing Realtree camouflage. Who do you wager the officer will pull over?
My bet is obvious, the guy with the decal telling one and all in an obscene manner how he’d like to see your daughter. No kidding, I recently saw a person with a sticker that read, “your daddy’s nightmare.”
Folks, just because it is legal does not mean it is the right thing to do. Use some common sense. You certainly have a right to free speech, however offensive speech (though protected) is offset by how you will be viewed and treated. As I tell people all the time in court, both as a judge and attorney, is “with rights go responsibilities”.
