When life gives you lemons, the best thing you can do is be prepared—and that includes having a solid estate plan. You can’t predict every twist or challenge, but you can make sure your loved ones aren’t left scrambling if something unexpected happens.

A comprehensive plan covers everything from medical decisions to financial authority to how your assets should be handled, giving you peace of mind no matter what life throws your way. If your plan could use an update or you haven’t created one yet, now’s a great time to start.

A lot of people mix up a will and a living will, but they serve two completely different purposes. Your will handles what happens to your property after you pass away, while your living will lays out your medical wishes if you can’t speak for yourself.

Both documents are essential, and having only one leaves major gaps in your plan. Understanding the difference helps you make sure your loved ones have clear guidance no matter what life throws your way. If you’re missing one of these or aren’t sure where to start, we can walk you through it.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Kata Law PLLC!

Today we honor the dads who show up, work hard, and do everything they can to support and protect their families. It’s a perfect moment to think about your own legacy and whether you’ve put the right plans in place for the people who depend on you. An estate plan is one of the strongest ways to make sure your loved ones are secure no matter what the future holds.

If you’re ready to take that step, we’re here to help you build a plan that reflects your values and the love you have for your family.

Thinking about growing your family? If you’re considering a Revocable Living Trust, you might be wondering whether you’ll have to redo the whole thing once you have more children. The good news is you won’t. A well-drafted trust can include language that automatically accounts for children born or adopted in the future, ensuring they’re included and treated the same as your current children.

You can always amend your trust later if you want to make specific changes, but you shouldn’t need to update it just to cover kids who aren’t here yet—your plan can anticipate that from the start.

Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and how important it is to think about the future we’re building for the next generation. Legacy isn’t just about assets; it’s about preserving stories, values, and opportunities for those who come after us. Estate planning gives you a way to protect what matters most and make sure the impact you’ve made continues long beyond your lifetime. As we honor this day, take a moment to reflect on how you want your own legacy to carry forward.

We all know our pets run the house, so imagine how they’d feel if they found out they weren’t included in the estate plan. The truth is, leaving pets out happens more often than you’d think, and it can create real problems if something unexpected happens. Including your furry family members in your plan ensures they’re cared for by the person you trust and have the support they need. It only takes a few extra steps, but it gives you peace of mind knowing they’ll be protected. If you’ve got a pet who’d definitely give you “that look,” make sure they’re part of your plan. Give us a call and let's make sure they're protected just like the rest of the family.

We’re grateful for every client we get to help, and our most recent 5 star review truly made our day. Estate planning can feel overwhelming at first, so hearing that this client walked away feeling supported, informed, and at peace is exactly why we do what we do. Each plan is personal, and it’s an honor to guide families through decisions that matter. If you’ve been thinking about creating or updating your own estate plan, we’d love to help you feel that same confidence and clarity.

Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a reminder of how important it is to protect and support the seniors in our lives. Everyone deserves to age with dignity, security, and respect, but too many older adults face financial exploitation, neglect, or mistreatment. One of the strongest ways families can help prevent these issues is by putting clear legal protections in place. At Kata Law PLLC, we work with families to create thoughtful estate plans that safeguard seniors’ wishes, assets, and well-being. Let’s all do our part to stand up for our elder community and ensure they receive the care and protection they deserve.

Your estate plan shouldn’t be a one-and-done project. Life changes, and your plan needs to keep up with it. That’s why it’s smart to review everything with your attorney every three to five years to make sure your documents still reflect your wishes, your family situation, and your assets.

Updating things regularly can prevent surprises, close any gaps, and keep your plan working exactly the way you intended. If it’s been a while since your last review, consider this your reminder to check in and make sure everything is up to date.
