Almost everyone says it. You are shaken, maybe embarrassed, there are flashing lights, and this comes out before you have any idea whether it is true.
But here is what you might not realize.
When you tell the police, or someone else, “I’m fine,” it goes in the report. So later on, whether it is a few hours or a few days or even a few weeks later, when you realize you are not fine, the insurance company already has your own words on file saying otherwise. Adrenaline wore off. The report did not change.
That is why we tell people to skip the reassurance and stick to the facts. You do not owe anyone a status update on your body before you have been examined.
And if you already said it, do not panic. It happens constantly and it is not the end of your case. What helps is what you do next. Get examined now. Tell the doctor every symptom, including the ones that feel too small to mention. Keep the follow up appointments.
Be sure to share this with others so they can be informed as well. And of course, we hope you are never hurt in an accident… but if you are, we’re here to help.
