If you are self-employed (even partnerships and S-corp owners) you can still set up a retirement account. A SEP-IRA can be established and funded by the due date of the tax return. As much as 25% of net income or $66,000.00 Whichever is less. Each entity type has some variance in guidelines to follow. The IRS will start accepting tax returns January 29th. It is prudent to wait until then to PREPARE the tax return in the event that there are any tax law updates.

Public service announcement: the IRS is basically on vacation until the first week of January. They are calling it maintenance. Don’t waste your time and energy trying to get any help from them until after the first week of January 2024.
